wow... I thought that (working backward) having an expensive car meant having a well paying job, doing well in school, having a modicum of motivation, curiosity about the world around us and enough friggin intelligence to see fact from fiction. The (modern) psychology of attracting females is a result of 100,000 years of tribal evolution. The peacok's feathers is the equivalent of your Porsche. Besides, the article clearly based it's claims on well grounded, peer reviewed research. Trumps your wife picking the car and all that anecdotal stuff.

btw, what is the track record of keynsean economics applied in full force? Thats right- the great depression and the great recession. So many parallels between the two its worth writing a paper on. way to go socialists.

Jill SUndie, the UTSA researcher, comments "...so CLEARLY when women spend money on expensive items, it MUST BE something other than to attract the opposite sex."

So CLEARLY women are buying Jimmy Choos, Manolo blahniks, etc. for the comfort and practicality.

Way to be scientific. CLEARLY Ms Sundie missed that day in 9th grade science class when the SCIENTIFIC METHOD was taught.

Sadly, the Porsches do attract many of the gold diggers (of which we have an unhealthy dose of here in my town) but they're so easy to spot! Follow the silicone! It's unfortunate that the study didn't cover the fact that many men buy them for what they are--terrific cars. Some people are just happy with the cars and no more!

You should know that there is a specific forum for political discussion, aptly named Politics and Controversy
It is chock full of like mined individuals that worship at the altar of Fox News and hate all things liberal.

Most of us come _here_ to get away from the political BS

Sure. The primary source quoted to support the viewpoint expressed in the Fox article you reference is a lawyer for the Heartland Institute, a well known right wing organization. Fox could also have obtained input from any one of the 32 National Science Acadamies, NASA, the Vatican Science Council, et al who have expressed their concerns about climate change but that's not their style despite the "fair and balanced" claim. Not trying to start a big thing, just keeping it real.

Back to the original topic; I buy my cars to please myself, not show off for someone else. That article seems frivolous.
