I purchased mine new in 09. Have had some minor issues (leaking transmission fluid-in the shop three times to resolve, crack in muffler-replaced entire right side and rattling noise in dash). If I experience any major issues (engine/transmission) I will definitely get rid of it. Otherwise, I do love the car and plan to keep it for at least 10 years. I'm retiring early in two years, so I can't wait to drive it everyday and spend time in it rather than have it sit at home or in the garage at work.

I had mine a little over a year, and sold due to warranty expiration, plus, I wanted a different toy.
Lost ~$1500 on it, which I would do again in a heartbeat.
As to moving up, I considered the F car, but they're too damned expensive. I'm currently in a 2006 Z06, so flame on!

After trading a 2004 vette in on my 2006 911, there is no way I'd go back. To each his own, but to me the Porsche is so much more fun to drive and at 6'5" so much more comfortable. I really liked the vette, but there is no feedback from the car. Fast yes, but to me it really doesn't compare to the Porsche. But like I said, to each his own.

When I bought my 997 in 2008 after months of trying to decide, I had narrowed down my choices to either a Z06, Viper, or 997 S. It was a tough decision considering that the 997 S was more expensive and much less powerful than the other two.

As an Arizona resident, don't you have enough flames to deal with already ?

There's quite a difference in the C5's and C6's, particularly the z06's. Your comment about the interior room surprised me, as I am 6'4", 225, and I find the vette much more comfortable, particularly in the footwell.
They are certainly 2 different cars, probably as different as you can get, and each is an entirely different driving experience. The 911 is much more refined, and the Z06 is more about brute power. As to driver feel, I found the vette gives much more feedback, as it is simply more raw. That impression could be due to my 911S also had PASM and I didn't drive it much in sport mode.
I'm already wondering what to try next, as I'm good for about a year, and then itch for something different.

2 yrs in 997.1 C2S, then a little over 2 yrs in a 997.2 C4S with a Cayman in between.

I knew I wouldn't be keeping this car since I didn't fall in love with PDK. I'm selling it tomorrow and I don't even feel heartbroken. That means it's the right decision. I was sadder getting rid of my RS4. My next Porsche will be an older, more analogue, historical replica (real 911, historical bits).

AFAIC, you made the right choice! I've never been really tempted to buy a Vette but they are pretty impressive and I wouldn't reject owning one. The Viper, OTOH, while really fast has no appeal for me whatsoever. It's a joke as an everyday vehicle and the batmobile styling is big turn off. I'd much rather own a Vette than a Viper. Just my $.02.

If you're speaking of the Wallah fire, absolutely. It's like 800 sq. miles, or something like that today, and only 30% contained.
There's some badass guys fighting that fire, and I can't imagine how hard that work must be + dangerous.
Or, if you're speaking of just the weather, yep, the pizza oven is warmed up, and our highs won't drop under 100 until mid-September or so. Winter in PHX for the next 4 months

I've always been one to get bored within two years or so and move on. Car just turned 4 years old last month and I just turned 50,000 miles.

I've driven just about everything else out there - IMHO the car is modded to perfection, runs great and I still love it.

I would take a financial beating by getting rid of it due to the miles, so I have no plans of getting rid of it. I DO plan, however, to add something. The only other car that i've driven that I really like is the F430. I think it would make a great garage mate.

I'd rather spend more money and keep my car, and add another rather than take a beating and not having it.

I would love to put 100,000 miles on this.

When the backseat is too small for my now 7 year-old (maybe 3 more years), I will likely keep my 2006 997S for the weekends and add an M3 to the garage. (maybe the Panamera will grow on me by then but I still think it is a little funny looking from the sideview)

I have 22 more months of CPO and that's it for my 2007. Just not worth the risk after that.

Was just out driving. Dumping this car after 22 more months will be very, very tough.

Why not just keep the car, whats life without risk? The more you change cars the more you pay the dealer anyway and the 997 is just a well built car, no need to fear.
