People selectively omit depreciation dollars from their mindset in these situations, especially when comparing to a rather modest roll of the dice in post-warranty years. Risk is also much less if you're the original owner and know what the car is like throughout the lifetime up until warranty expiration.

Its amazing to me how people are able to spend 100k on a car and worried about spending a couple k once the warranty is up to fix something up. Risk is always overstated and this is why these firms are willing to give you insurance.

When one day I trip on a rainbow and go home with Jesus, my trust stipulates that I will be buried in whatever Porsche I own at the time.

That tells me they can't comfortably afford a Porsche. Some people will buy/lease it if they feel like they can make the payments. Those can't afford to pay if something goes wrong.

I bought my 2006 model in early 2009.
I will likely buy a 2010 or 2011 GT3 in 2014 or so.
5 years seems good for a "pleasure car"

Affordability has nothing to do with it for me. I owned my last Porsche, I own my new GTS, and I plan to own my future Porsche. I just like new stuff and really don't like paying to fix things.

I kept my prior m3 for 10 yrs. Still have a '92 4Runner in the drive way... it's my airport car and 4x4 mudder. Need to get a sticker that says "my other car is a Porsche" for it. I hope to keep my C2S for 10+ yrs... would be great if it lasted 30+ yrs until the end of days for me. Would, of course, want to p/u another p-car alone the way. But this one I intend to pass onto whomever takes care of me towards the end... and will wash and maintain her for me... Hope it's one of my boys, a grand kid, but could be a neighbor(like in Grand Torino)...

Not really. It cost me less to drive my Boxster S for 2 years than a Ford Mustang would have cost me, and way less than a Corvette would have cost for the same 2 years.

Yes and the "comfort" in trading in a 40k mile car coming off warranty for a guaranteed depreciation of $50k over a few years on a new Carrera S because they want to avoid the minimal odds of a major repair on a 40k mile Carrera that they already own outright. That's the financial mentality in many people's minds.

I've been wondering when it will be the right time to sell this one. I may only keep it for 2 years.

944 - 6 years
964 - 10 years and it still in the garage

I'm not sure if I want to get into another 10 year attachment.

If the car is trouble-free over the next 22 months, then I may consider keeping it. It's true that constant trading in costs me a lot.

Thanks.
