Default FVD centerlock conversion kit for 997.2

http://www.fvd.de/us/en/Porsche-0/-/...rsion-Kit.html

Anyone have any direct experience with using this to convert a 5 lug 997.2 to CL?
It seems pretty straightforward.
I like the fact that they say, "centerlock wheels required"!

Craig:

As the proud owner of a new GTS with centerlocks, I can only say "think twice." The factory CL's are a huge pain, with special tools, lubes and torque settings required. You even need someone to sit in the car with his/her foot on the brake when you loosen the CL nut.

I can't be certain from the photos but it looks like the parts being sold by FVD are in fact the factory CL components. They came on my car and look cool, but if I had to do it over again I'd have gotten the car with conventional 5-bolt wheels.

Why haven't I seen you at any DE's lately????

(And I think I have as many "steel is real" rides as you, including 3 Brian Baylis's, 1 Richard Sachs, 1 Ciocc Mockba 80, and 1 Wizard on order - assuming BB ever gets around to building another frame!)

Thanks Dwight, that's good feedback, i'll let Maya know to consider re-thinking this path.

Why no DEs?
Getting ready for Euro trip.

can't afford to do both DE and Skydive, (time AND $$$$$$$$ too short of supply).

I met the $$$$$$$$ guy behind Dave Tesch last weekend. Some interesting stuff in his garage.

Cheers

Craig

I've watched many CL wheels changes at my DE's and I just donlt see what all the drama, fuss and hate is about. Once you have the proper torque wrench it's just 1 nut to spin off....remove wheel, put new wheel back on, torque down, back off 1/4 turn re-torque...you're done. There is a $40 device that you put between the brake pedal and seat to press the brakes...simple and done.

I saw a few Canadians (crazy canucks) switch tires this weekend. Took maybe 2 minutes a wheel.

The CLs were recalled last week. I believe they are just inspecting, greasing, and retorqueing to a higher spec (600nm?).

The drama on RL sounded scary, but these guys swapped wheels in under 10 minutes, while walking me through it, no problems.

Yep...there is a lot of "drama" about CL's on the GT3 forum but some guys on there that track there azz's of like Trakcar and Izzone say they are no problem at all. I was at the track with Izzone 2 weekend ago and he swaped out front tires in a couple of minutes, no problem.

thanks for the comments.
if we go down this path, it will be primarily for aesthetics, we won't be changing wheels often.

cheers

Craig
