thinking of dropping the car to get a little more aggressive look.. nothing too crazy but how much should I drop in the front and back?

my dad"s C4S is dropped about an extra 10mm. Although it looks great, he can't stand it. The car scrapes on every little bump in the road and speedbumps are terrifying.

Opinions on this will vary widely. My C2S has sport PASM which is 10mm lower than the standard C2S and 20mm lower than the normal Carrera. For the places I drive that is as low as I want to go. My old 996 was lowered more than 35mm from stock and not only was it a real problem in driveways, over bumps etc. but the reduced suspension travel and stiffer springs and shocks that were required made it really marginal for the street.

To answer your question, I'd go no more than 20mm front and rear.

If you're at PASM height, MAXIMUM 10mm, if you're at normal suspension height, 20mm MAX.

^^ beautiful.. 20mm looks amazing.. yeah no PASM... any issues on bumps and normal street driving ? issues with carrying passengers in the rear?

10mm would be PASM height, 20mm is SPASM height, I think ppl were ok with SPASM height, I'd DEFINITELY won't go ANY LOWER than that... 20mm is max. I am at PASM height and to me that's PERFECT for street/track combo. I RARELY EVER scrape.

Thanks. My driveway is quite steep so going too low could be a real problem at the entrance to it. The only thing that ever touches, and then only slightly, are the little rubber aero flaps you can see in front of the front wheels. It's sometimes the same over severe bumps at speed. Otherwise no problems; with a little care I've never bottomed out the nose/spoiler. Keep in mind that with sport PASM I've got stiffer springs and shocks so that helps with chassis control. As for rear passengers, I've got the rear seats removed and a harness bar installed so that extra weight is not a consideration for me.

Eibach and Techart are 20mm drop

H&R is about another 10mm drop (30mm total)

I went with Eibach and have been happy with them.

you have to maintain close to 90 degrees angle between front control arms when you lower down your car. then after you got to what you can do in front - set rear to 1/2 inch higher than front. if you want to go lower you will need to put on cup car uprights as it will change suspension geometry. plus you`ll have to deal with bump steer arms. it costs plenty plus has to be done in pro shop that knows how to set it up properly.

all that have sense to ask if you go with coilovers that allow you to set any riding height. if you want to keep PASM - just get existing spring kits from Eibach, they are the best imho.

Btw, as we got McPherson struts upfront, as stated if you lower too much you're gonna affect the geometry and negatively affect handling, so probably PASM height is best compromise as you got 997.1!

hm... wow tons of information to digest.. .. sounds like 10 mm is probably better to not affect the car's geomertry unless I wanna spend some money otherwise... is that the general consensus here? the car will be mostly for street use
