Really? I actually really like the backend of the MK6 GTI, it looks fantastic IMO!

Although NOTHING beats Scirocco's look!

Too bad getting the Scirrocco in the US is hard proposition. The VW NA geniuses that brought you the most striped down, cheapest materials, most cheaply put together VW Jetta of today, because the marketing studies say that US car buys want cheap crap, so rather than build and sell VWs, they want to compete to the lowest common denominator: the Honda/Toyota low end buyer.

I'm more a fan of the angular looks of the Gen 1,2 and a bit in the 3 and maybe 4 Golf era. The gen 5 and even 5, and its seen in the Scirrocco backside as well, start to look just like all the other cars. There isn't anything that distinguishes it from a Toyota or Honda or Acura or GM backside.

I have to agree, I looked at some of the photos of the new Scirocco and really like what I see. Thats ashame that the US has to get the watered-down versions and models of these cars

What driveline are you looking for with the A3? I'll just say that we absolutely love our new A3 TDI with the DSG gearbox. Solid as a tank, excellent fit and finish, nice features, firm yet compliant ride and handling, and while not a "hot hatch" it has very satisfying punch when desired from the toquey turbo diesel. All this and we're getting almost 40mpg in suburban driving and close to 50 on the highway.

What I'd like is the TDI with a 6spd manual gearbox. While the DSG may be great, I'm just happier shifting myself.

If I could get the manual gearbox with a quattro drivetrain, I'd also be happy.

Though what I really want is this config (as pulled of the the Audi germany configurator list of starting configs):

Attraction 2.0 TDI 125(170) 6-Gang quattro 29.000,00
Thats about $37,000 after you remove the VAT and do the conversion to USD

But Audi NA boneheads refuse to allow me to purchase this combo of manual 6 spd, 2 liter TDI and awd... bastards.

I'd have gone for a 6 speed stick too, but my wife drives the A3 most of the time and while she can drive a manual, she much prefers an automatic, so there you go. It's too bad Audi can't widen their product line here in the U.S., although I'm sure some bean counter in Ingolstadt made the decision not to go that way.

I highly doubt it was a bean counter in Ingolstadt. More like some pinhead running it form Auburn Hills, Michigan that thinks they know stuff about the US market.

For me every Beetle is too stubby for 911 elegant and sleek look. length to height ratio of 911 is 3.5 , last beetle is only 2.8, classic and first new beetle even worse.
They have both roundish front lights and is some angle rear slope of last Beetle reminds at 911.

Are Porsche owners offended when someone compare 911 with Beetle?

They're trying REALLY HARD to appeal to men, and to some respect they have succeeded, I'd personally would never buy this over a GTI, but who knows, some might like it better, to look like baby 911!
Looks too much like a PT Cruiser with the 'turbo' decal ordered from Amazon.
