Default OT: NEW VW Beetle - Baby Porsche?

The new Beetle is finally unveilved (in China of all places!)... Some resemblance to Porsche IMO (look at the rear spoiler!)... what do you guys think?

I'm not getting much Porsche resemblance.

I don't like it. The front 3/4 view reminds me of a PT Cruiser. I think it must be the big wheel arches front and back.

Damn, those wheels are almost as ugly as Porsche's Turbo II wheels!

Not much, but look at this pic...

Does that "Turbo" remind you of anything?

They're trying REALLY HARD to appeal to men, and to some respect they have succeeded, I'd personally would never buy this over a GTI, but who knows, some might like it better, to look like baby 911!

Better hope your new Porsche is not a big VW!

Yeah, there's the resemblance...the very "long-in-the-tooth" TT.

Looks like a more masculine version of the New Beetle. But isn't that what the GTI and Scirocco are for?

Interior is totally uninspired for a 'whimsical' car.

VW is heading down the GM path, full steam ahead. Too many models, too many brands, crappy quality (I've been driving a 2011 Jetta company car for a few months; a far cry from the 2008 and 2009 I had previously), misguided goals of world dominance...there is no way it can end well.

The 2011 Jetta is a TOTALLY CHEAPENED OUT VERSION of Golf, MEANT for NA market only, to compete with Corolla, Civic, GM cars by having the same price point, hence lower in quality and made in Mexico/Brazil ONLY.

The Golf, GTI, or Tiguan are on the other hand European made cars and WAY BETTER CARS, however, they're a few thousands more.

VW actually is a GREAT car for what it is, if I wanted to buy a small sized car, Golf or GTI are absolutely PERFECT. I had a MK4 GTI and it was one of the most fun cars I've ever owned!

Yeah the GTI's are all brilliant. It's too bad we don't get the Scirocco over here, I love that thing.

But I think the GM comparison is fair, and it's only getting worse. The VW/Audi/Porsche/Bentley/etc. conglomerate is going to have just a few standardized platforms with different skins for each nameplate.

Personally I think they really screwed the pooch on this one. It should have been smaller than the old "new beetle" , not bigger. It should have been a cute little city car ala the Fiat 500.
