Spoiler Drive Noise/ Replaced on Warranty
When washing my 2009 911S I take the car for a short drive to get some water off and dry the breaks. I also put up spoiler the help get the water out.
When retracting the spoiler manually when the car was at idle I would hear a loud creaking noise. You would not notice the sound this if the engine was anywhere over the mid-line of revs. Otherwise, the spoiler worked as expected.
I just took the car to the dealer and they quickly agreed to replace the spoiler drive under warranty. I was told this is not an unusual problem on 911s.
If you do not usually open and close your 911s spoiler when the car is at low RPMs, you may want to check this function before your warranty expires. I was told the repair would be about 700 Dollars...

I commented on that when I took my car in for a missfire (cracked #5 coil). It was noisy moving up or down. They lubricated it so it's better but said they'll replace the motor under warranty next time if it's still not perfect.

mine got "lubed" in fall of 09 and it stopped it for a little while.
it came back a bit last year, so i lubed the points that i could reach.
when it goes in this year, if it's making noise, i'll get it checked out again. thanks for the info!

Regarding my post;
I realize that some high-tech grease will decrease the spoiler drive's noise, but given that lubrication of that part is not usually preformed and that the spoiler's correct function is very necessary in order to drive the 911 at triple digits, I wanted to give you all a heads up.
I just feel that this part should not make such a noise at less than 10,000 miles. For me, such sounds equal a bad fit and a possible impending failure of a critical part of your car.

good post. i noticed my 09 was making nosie during a wash. What points are lubed? BTW did they use "regular" grease? IMO Lithium or other non dirt/dust attracting lube is better.

With the spoiler up look at the two rods. You will see a hole in each. Spray lube in each hole.

Every 911 I was near creaked and groaned going up and down (probably 5 now). The owners never knew it. There are two holes in the plastic housings.... very easy to see. WD40 works, but I found a heavier grease does better. Shoot some in there with it down, then when up.... work up and down a few times... done.
My rec is Winzer PolyLube.
Replacing the unit? Well I am all for new parts if for free but I suspect the dealer is making money from Porsche on that one.
Peace
