Here's my pad wear report. Similar wear--virtually none. Of course, all of that makes sense. When you wear nothing you produce no dust.

I am not sure if the noise came from the new rear pads but I have notice some marks on the rear rotors (lines around the rotor). The rotor does not look to be damaged in anyway and the lines is just visible but can not be felt when i put my finger across the rotors.

One thing I never understand about how brakes work is that. Does brake pad still make a slight contact with rotors when the brake paddle is released (constantly making contact with rotors) or does it retract away from the rotors with the caliper pistons at a sizable gap.

If it does retract with the pads what helps caliper piston "grabbing" the pad away from the rotors when brakes are released since the only thing between the pads and pistons is the metal backing plate. One of the easier maintenance jobs on any car is replacing brake pads. It's a good basic education. Hydraulic pressure against the pistons forces the pads against the rotors and as you press harder on the pedal you increase correspondingly te pressure of the pads against the rotors. When you release your pressure on the pedal the piston retracts. All 4wd 997s feature a very special advanced brake system that will as select times "preload" the pistons with the pads pushed up right next to the rotors. This preloading buys you a degree of faster brake response. I naturally would expect that that comes at a price with higher pad wear. But, it will shorten your braking distances.
