Default PCCB Pad Wear Report

With nearly 64,000 miles on my 06 Carrera S Cab I mic-ed the front pads today to see how I was coming along at wearing them down.

Some time back at around 38,000 miles I reported a use of .6mm of pad. At 64,000 miles I'm down to a mere 9.23 mm of pad (out of 10.6 mm to start). Thus, in about 100,000 kilometers, I have consumed roughly 13% of the available pad material.

Upon inspection of the rotors I am not seeing any of the telltale marks (indicating a wear issue).

Color me happy!

Wow. It makes that expensive initial cost easier to swallow.

On my S, I know they weren't worn much at 40K miles, although don't remember any details. They seem to last almost forever (and no brake dust!). Have them on my TT too (S has been sitting and should have been sold a long time ago ... long stupid story).

Having just installed my 2nd set of rotors and pads in 4-5 years, I'm halfway towards the cost of ceramics. Just out of idle curiosity, does anyone make a PCCB retrofit for 993's?

Love 'em Edgy. Mine are going strong and would get another set should I option up for a .2 or 991. I have a micrometer but do you have to pull the calipers to measure the pads?

I don't pull the pads (or calipers) to measure. I just measure them in place with a micrometer.

Y'all need to go to the track and wear them
down. LOL... Yeah for street driving PCCB will last a long time.Track driving they don't hold up and cost way more than steel. I did the math when buying my GTS and with the PCCB rotor cost could not justify them. Darn it!

I drive the thing sometimes like I'm on a track, but it's strictly a street car. I have seen a broadband of results from those who track their PCCB-equipped 997s. Some do extremely well, while some have completely toasted their rotors and calipers. A lot is in driving technique.

I think some of the toasted PCCB rotors are from tracking this brake system with race pads or running the street pads down past 50%. However even if pccb rotors last 2 years of track time (30 events avg for me) I wouldn't come close to spending the $18,000 on steel rotors and pads to replace them.

I wanted pccb on the GTS, the $8k option is tough to swallow but if new pccb rotors costed $8k and lasted a coupke of years of track use I'd probably have gotten them. My pockets are not deep enough for pccb.

I am banking on the PCCBs catching on and the manufacturing costs to drop significantly by the time I ever think about needing new rotors. But that will be another 200,000 miles from now!

Yes with your type of driving and use of the car they will last a super long time. Hopefully the do catch on and replacement cost comes down.
