Mike's pic shows the "Y" cable which is the later version, your 2009 may have come with the cable that only has one connection to the car, mine had the older cable. The Y cable charges the ipod/iphone in the car.

The "older" iPod cable (that has one connection) will work AND charge early-model iPods. It will also work but NOT charge late-model iPods or iPhones. If you want your late-model iPods or iPhone to work and charge, you'll need to buy the Y cable. Suncoast sells it for around $29-30. Hope this helps.

Vexed, are you saying that MY 2009 Carreras came with two varieties of cable? My 2009 was built in April 2009 and came with the Y cable.

Yes, I will check the car tonight (either March or April build) and it came with the other cable. Just bought the Y cable from Sunset in Oregon for half of what the dealer here wanted for it. It is odd, I think earlier builds had the old cable also.

The older single cable works with older Apple products (12 volts charge) New Apple products utilise the USB power of 5Volts to charge, so if not connected to USB will not charge. The Y cable only uses the USB connection for charging purposes of newer products, still uses the multi Apple connector for the audio connection.

My 09 TT late 08 build) came with the older single cable but the Y cable was out or released in early 09 as I ordered one from Suncoast and thought I needed it, although it turns out I didn't. A cable is supposed to come with the car if it has the UAI option.
