Is the RMS leak still a problem for MY06?

My '07 Carerra S has 36k miles and is at the dealer now with leakage. $2,500.00 to fix the leak, parts and labor, and while you're at they recco putting in the LN Engineering fix for another $800 or so. So yes, it is still a potential problem until you reach the '09 my after which there is no shaft or bearing. Take the time to carefully read the excellent PCA Oregon Region article on the internet on this subject. Read it slowly. Then you will now the true state of affairs.
07 has the larger IMS bearing, which very rarely fail, and without cracking the case, is not replaceable.

You don't split a case for an RMS. Just drop the trans. It would make sense to do the clutch if it was time however.
I think this dealer is taking "care" of him....unless there is more to this story, it makes me sick. $2500 for an RMS is already inflated, now they add $800 more for an IMS which later can't be verified unless the trans is dropped again. I bet he's being told it's a one day job as well. To drop the engine and split the case and do all the work (right) is a five day job if you know what you're doing.

This sounds like a recent thread I read where an indy charged $800 for an LN ims retrofit but the picture he took of his motor was the large nut bearing that isn't serviceable. I wonder what happened to that guy? I think his screen name was Boomerts... I can't belive a dealer would pull this same move

That was a weird deal. Comes asking for a bunch of advice and gets it. Ends up saying something about he and his indy mechanic are working through it, and disappears. Little odd to ask everyone for advice and then get to the end of it and never hear what the resolution was. If you aren't going to keep us updated on the outcome, don't bother asking for help with your drama in the first place.

I would like to think we take care of eachother on issues like this. When it comes to personal taste, it's like belly buttons, everyone's got one.
But avoiding a ripoff is just part of being on a board and giving solid input.

Bommerts is working it out with his indy while innocent people are getting ripped off by his douchebag mechanic. Both guys are douches, Bommerts for not exposing this guy and letting him continue to screw honest people over

My 06 RMS was replaced at 18k in 2010, likely due to light driving by the orginal owner. Clutch was not changed. $1080 labor at a Porsche dealer and $22 seal. I don't know the condition of IMS flange seal and hope there were no leaks with this. I agree with another poster that any leaking could impact the clutch.
