Default Is the RMS leak still a problem for MY06?

Would you guys know if the Rear Main Seal is still a problem for 2006 on 911? I've read that this has been fixed by the factory from 2006. Anyone with 2006 or new 997 had to fix their RMS? Is this a soon or later problem which every 911 will need to address?

Potentially, the problem can show up on any 911 until MY09. However, there are many things that can mitigate it, e.g., changing the oil frequently, and driving the car regularly. There have been some cases of this becoming a problem on cars that are babied.

what exactly is the problem, it's not like it dumps oil or even is enough to worry about.

I have a 997 MY06 since new (50K on it now) and it has been bone dry. My MY05 987 Boxster had a rms leak but was repaired and has been dry since. Porsche has greatly improved the RMS and most repairs never leak again.

The RMS topic comes up often enough for me to ask-is there any credible data that shows what percentage of cars, by MY have this problem. The cars have been around long enough for this.

I have almost 27k miles on my 06 C2S cab with no RMS issues yet. I drive mine enthusiastically and it is a daily driver with a few autocrosses to boot. I'm hoping if it ever has an RMS issue, it shows up within the next year before the CPO expires. My car consumes about 1 liter of oil every 1500 miles, but has no leaks.

MY06, 18,4xx miles had mine fixed a couple of weeks ago under CPO, had both the RMS and transmission leak, leak is probably not a good word, seepage, is probably a better term. i didn't even know about it b/c there wasn't a single drop of oil in my garage. Only when it was lifted did the mechanic notice it. A full days work for the mechanic that repaired it. Costly repair as well if you had to pay on your own.

Sheesh. RMS is no big deal. It's like $1000 to fix and it's just a slow drip oil leak anyway. You could have an RMS leak and just not fix it and add oil once in a while and do no harm to the car. It's not worth even worrying about.

Maybe I should find a reason to take my car to the dealer in case they find oil seepage on mine too while it is under CPO. Of course, whatever I have them do will cost $500 more than it should, so the cost/benefit may be questionable.

I took my Boxster to an indie for just such a thing and he found the RMS seepage. It might be worth doing the same if your CPO is about to expire.

It can ruin your clutch if you dont take care of it.

Also, it its your IMS bearing leaking that is much more serious so you may as well have it checked out.

Have also heard of many GT3's have RMS leaks even though it is a completely different motor.

Makes sense. I could always take it to the dealer to have the actual warranty work done if discovered by indie.

Took mine in for an annual oil/filter change and they discovered the problem. Another good recommendation is to take it in a couple of months before CPO expires and get whatever that needs fixed fix under CPO.

On Tuesday I took my 05 c2 (with 55k miles) to the dealer before the cpo expires next week. They found NOTHING wrong with the car at all. When I asked about potential RMS issue to the service manager, he kinda shook his head and said "never heard some much of a problem that happens so rarely". I know to take what a service manager says with a grain of salt in general but in this case, they would bill Porsche for any repairs so it would be to their benefit to find issues. I am glad that they didn't find anything and from now on, I will be swimming in unchartered waters (without any warranty).
