Unbelievable to me that they are selling more Cayenne's and Panamera's than 911s.
I can't say I like it, but you can't argue with the result.

When is Range Rover coming out with a high end sports car?

I can only find a couple nice used carreras in my area, but if I wanted a Cayenne I could have my pick of about 100. Boxters too. It's amazing. And these sales show why.

Thanks Brian! The 911 sales are actually quite good. The bulk of sales in Cayennes and Panameras just reflects who the current customer is... and, in retrospect, it says that in the recent past many 911s were bought for the badge. No longer the case, as the badge is available now on other platforms with a better fit for the demographics.

Don't knock the Cayenne. Where do you think Porsche would be without it. Maybe extinct?

Unbelievable? Why? It's been like that for years! The market for Cayenne or Panamera is much larger than enthusiasts who want a special sports car!

Car sales are increasing due to the freeing up of financing. Looks like we are back into the death spiral of credit again. Do people ever learn?

The bulk of 911's are bought as keepers. The Cayenne and Panamera are mostly leased and are used as DD and therefore flipped more often. This explains the high number of Cayenne's on the resale market.

Why not? Didn't they almost go out of business already? Porsche is smart, going "commercial" with the Cayenne. I wouldn't buy one, but apparently, a lot of folks do-disillusioning themselves into thinking they are driving a genuine Porsche.

Actually very believable and that's why Porsche created them. They appeal to the masses, where as our 911s are only for those who have the extra cash for an exotic toy.

I've owned 4 "genuine Porsches" including my current '09 Carrera S and I also have an '11 Cayenne S on order that will be here later this month. Have you driven a new Cayenne with PASM, PDCC, and PTV? Do you have any idea how well they handle and perform? Unless you're a very competent driver you might find it interesting trying to keep up with a well driven one on track or a winding road. Making generalizations is usually risky. If you need to have an SUV, I don't see anything wrong with wanting to drive one with exceptional dynamic qualities, ie a Porsche.

My apologies to the OP for drifting off topic.

No question. Both the Cayenne and Panamera are excellent in their respective segments. They do indeed have Porsche 'DNA' and stand above their peers. They appeal to people who would not get 911s or get them for the badge only. Traditional Porsche enthusiasts get them too.
