It looks like that torque multiplier is a piece of essential equipment for these wheels. (Seen in the 4th link).

I would just use the following torque wrench from tooltopia.com - don't need the multiplier. There's a picture of it in the first thread above. Works great.

Reduced unsprung weight. Just like those snazzy PCCBs. Less pain in the wallet, though...

Just exactly how much weight is shed with the centerlocks? (in pounds).

I dunno - I'm just quoting from the Porsche literature...

"The central locking device is derived from motorsports. Its advantages include better driving dynamics and performance thanks to lower rotating mass."

I've not been able to find weight specs on the centre locks although HRE Porsche versions are stated to "start at 17 pounds".

I think I read somewhere that it is some weight, but not a significant amount.

Given the HRE comment would this not mean about 3 lb per corner (HRE's in another thread for 997TT where about 20 lb for the front.)

Seems like a lot though, does this seem correct to folks?

You are correct, it's not much weight saved - I think about a pound or two. They are actually not a pain in the *** if you are prepared prior to taking delivery of the vehicle. I enjoy having them. It is definitely different than the standard setup, but not difficult if you have the correct torque wrench. As kosmo said above, the "consumer" market is probably not ready for them.

Default More useful links -

Guys,

Looks fairly easy and routine to take a wheel off and on, don't see any real difficulties here.

Here are a couple of newer links I dug up:
