How much to install PSE?
I recently bought a new 2010 997 C2S. Now I'm thinking I would like to install PSE. Anyone have any idea what that might cost? Do the old parts have any value? The car has never been driven and is still in storage.

Suncoast Porsche's prices are usually pretty competitive and they are asking $2550 for a PSE kit ($2990 list). A quick search of the archives reveals that 8-9 hours of labor is required for installation, particularly if you want the on/off switch installed in the dash as that requires removing quite a few interior bits to install the wiring/switch etc. Figuring labor @ $100-120/hr you're probably going to be into this project for $3500+ unless you're planning a DIY.
I doubt the old mufflers would be worth much as there isn't a lot of demand for them. I will say that I have PSE on my car, and it's one of the best options I ordered.

I have it on my car, but I rarely use it. If I wanted to install it, I might look at an aftermarket rig. Seems people like Fabspeed and AWE, but I am no expert.

With a second Gen 997 I think I would opt for FVD's new PDK version exhaust. I am leaning in that direction for my car. I had thought about the PSE as well.

Thanks guys. At $3,500.00 installed, the price works for me. The option price when ordering the car from Porsche is $3,200,00 in Canada. Of course if I buy the parts here it would be much more expensive but the labour rates are comparable and hopefully the tech works at the same speed. There will also be 6.2% duty and a little freight but all in all it should be within $600.00 of the price I would have paid if ordered from the factory.

If you have a lift, etc. and it takes 8-9 hours to install they must be napping for 3-4 hours. I did the PSE on my 996, including all the electronics (did not do the speedo cutout) in far less than 8 hrs. And that was in my garage with no lift or experience.

Just passing on quotes I saw posted from people who had gotten them from dealers. Wouldn't be the first time a shop over-estimated their labor costs. OP can consider it a worst case scenario.

If you have a good relationship with your techs, or your sales guy has a good relationship, I get the impression it is not uncommon for them to bypass Porsche and do the install for you at their rate (probably less than the $100+/hr standard 8 hr. charge you'd get from the dealer). My sales guy told me that if I wanted PSE aftermarket that he'd hook me up with a tech who'd install it on his own time.

Many shops will charge you for the manufacturer estimated install time regardless of their actual shorter time.

Most shops, particularly dealers do charge book time. And if there are no complications most mechanics/techs can beat book time by a large margin. This is one of the ways that dealer make a profit. And some shops pay the techs by the actual hours they work, others by the book time they accomplish.
Of course the other side of this is that sometimes it takes more than book time. Broken studs, frozen bolts etc. can seriously slow down the progress, but a shop should never charger more than book time if they use book time for jobs.

I've asked around and in Canada, it's $1200+ for install at dealers and not much less at other shops.

That's spot on. I had a buddy who was a Nissan tech. They worked in groups of three at his dealership. The customer was charged book time and if/when the techs finished under time they got a percentage of the profit. My friend once told me that it was quite common that his dealer, on a regular basis, charged (book time) for many more hours than the techs actually spent on a job.
