Default 911 doing ~40MPG ... article on autospies.com

Saw this article on autospies.com

The aurthor took a picture of the mpg display on the display panel showing almost 40MPG... I guess he resetted the computer and went downhill on Neutral? My 997.1S at best does 18 MPG combined city and highway in FL, I use it as a DD, with 70% of the driving highway. What are you all getting?

I have no idea HOW he got that, it's definitely 100% impossible in city driving, even if 997.2 is more economical... it however might be possible for a short period of time in highway driving if you trick it.

I've managed more than 30 MPG on a long highway drive (997.1 C4S), I reset the MPG on a long stretch and kept the RPM low in 6th gear, and kept the speed via cruise control around 50-60 MPH and I put it in neutral when it was downhill. Try it, Cruise control is the best way to keep the MPG high.

Now in the city, I am getting something like 15MPG, that's 70% city, 30% Highway, but on HWY I literally gun it whenever I can!

I have hit 30.5 mpg on a 2 hour drive, PDK 7th gear, mostly about 65mph and non agressive driving on the highway. A former german racer actually did average 6.7l/100km during a 648 km( trip (405miles) on public roads in 2008 with a C2 PDK. That's 35mpg. For anyone profecient in german, the link's below

Most of my trips, regrettably, are short ones. I'm getting just over 16mpg.

LOL this sounds about right. Maybe if you have a good tailwind and put a sail out the sunroof.

One pic means absolutely nothing.

Put me in any vehicle with a MPG readout and I'll get a pic of the readout at 100 MPG.

Point said vehicle downhill at hwy speed in top gear, take foot off gas pedal, clear the trip mpg readout, (fuel injectors will be shut down, zero fuel) touch the gas pedal once to get the display to register a mpg reading, viola, snap pic of Al Gore's dream vehicle's OBC display at 100 mpg. (believe most max out at 100)

Then I'll write an article accusing people of not knowing how to drive the cars they have!

I have been getting a bit less than 27 mpg on long highway trips carrying substantial luggage on 18" Michelin Pilot Alpins at normal inflation.

I recall reading an article in "Total911" when the 997.2 came out, where they were getting well over 30mpg with the PDK in mixed driving. I scratched my head wondering how DFI and PDK could increase mileage that much over my 997.1 which gets around 16-17 in mixed driving. Then I remembered that Total911 is a UK mag and unless they've changed it, in the UK their Imperial gallon is something like 25% more than the US gallon (and I imagine the trip computer in UK cars would be calibrated to it).

I've been tracking my mileage for the last 1,000 miles on my commute, about 12 miles each way, with about 5 of those on the freeway. Gettting 15.5 mpg, but love to do the 0-60 on the freeway on-ramp. As you can probably tell, I drive the pcar for fun, not for mileage. BTW - the mileage my computer shows is right on with my manual calcs. over the long-run.

Last trip to Vegas from L.A., averaging from 75-85 mph, 27.4 mpg. In city driving, it's more like 17-18. This in a 09 C2S PDK.

Keep in mind, those are British mags. Different size gallons...

One imperial gallon is approximately equal to 1.201 U.S. gallons.
One imperial gallon is exactly 4.54609 litres, whereas one U.S. gallon is exactly 3.7854118 liters.

I got 40+ at one point during a cross-country trip. It wasn't for too long (maybe 3-4 minutes?), but I was surprised enough to take a pic. Definitely not coasting...

If the long time MPG average of a 997 is much higher than 19MPG there's something wrong with that car or his driver.
