I'm liking the dk. blue metallic car a lot(I could certainly live with the silver one, just leaning toward blue if money works out).

So, I called Barrier Porsche. I gave the salesman the reference number of the dk. blue metallic car. He quickly claims that on the webpage he was looking at, the price for the that car was ~114,500. And that through some special deal with Porsche, they may be able to give me more than 4 yrs/50k mi warranty. I told him that we must be looking at different cars because the dk. blue metallic car I'm seeing is 107,205. He repeatedly asks what webpage I'm looking at and stalls a bit, talks to the sales manager, and then says the car is new(obviously since it has only 24 miles) but that the warranty began running Jan. 4, 2011 and they weren't able to stretch that out any. He says they did this so that they could show it sold which allows them to order more cars from the factory.

He goes on to say that at 107,205 there isn't much wiggle room but that if I want to come in 1 or 2k lower he would take that offer to his manager. I laughed and told him I wanted to find the webpage that has it listed at 91K, gave him my phone # and left it there.

Jimjoe997, you knocked it out of the park! Would you be my agent in this transaction? If I could do as good as you did I think this car would soon be on the way to Alabama.

On a side note, what will be the fallout for not using the dealer that's 20 miles away? I will obviously get service work done there since it's so close. I would buy from them if I could but they just don't have what I want on the lot. And I can't see paying a them "finder's fee" of more than a few hundred dollars to be involved in the purchase of this one.

Thanks paver. I think I got lucky - they had a hard time selling the car - it had been in the showroom for 11 months. My salesman said it was because of the sport bucket seats (too narrow for some). And, I think Porsche was offering some incentive money at the time. My choice was 1.9% financing OR the $89,500 price (I forget what the price would have been with the 1.9% financing, sorry). My wife told me to get it because I deserve it - I couldn't argue with that.

I chose not to use my local dealer (about 45 minutes away) and bought from the dealer 2 hours away. My local dealer (salesperson) was pissed at me, but he did not work to find a car to my specs.

Yesterday I decided to make an offer on the blue 2010 C2S I linked to earlier in this thread. I also decided, since this will be my first Porsche, to let my local dealer in on the deal. Even though it will cost me more, I'm more comfortable letting the paperwork go through the local guys instead of a dealer all way across the country.

So, yesterday I call my dealer, tell him about the car, and make an offer between 17 and 18% below msrp plus I pay taxes and shipping. I just told him if he can get it cheaper, the difference is his. He said "OK. I'll let you know in an hour".

Three and a half hours later he called and says "I think you got it. They just have to check with one more guy. We will know by tomorrow at 11 AM. I will call you tomorrow."

So, I have been waiting all day and haven't heard a thing. Are they just playing me to see if I'll call them and up the offer?

Do y'all think I have done this in the right way?
Thanks

Sounds like you're doing the right things. If you haven't heard by mid-day Monday I'd give them a call and just ask how it is proceeding. If the deal goes through, that's a great buy on a great car.

My thoughts......Don't call them. Let them call you. If they try to come back to you with any substantial increase from your offer, just tell them "No thanks. That car is not worth that much to me. If you can't get the deal done for my price, I'll go straight to the selling dealer." I would be willing to bet you get a definitive answer within an hour or two.

Remember it is still a buyer's market and there are a lot of cars out there.

If I have to buy it direct from the selling dealer, what are the steps(and pitfalls) to that process if I do it w/o flying out there?
Do I just negotiate to agreed price via phone/e-mail, then after they send me doc's and title I overnight them a certified check?
Can I trust them to keep the car pristine until my shipper picks it up?

Yes on negotiation via phone.

They will want the check before they will send you the title.

Yes, they will take care of the car for you.

You could even ask a fellow Rennlister to go see the car in person to visually check it out for you. The car is a Barrier Porsche, correct? I know a couple of guys on the 996 Forum that are in the Seattle area. Send a PM to Ivangene (his name is Ed) to see if he would mind checking out the car for you. He is a good guy and will probably be willing to look at the car. Tell him that Tim suggested you contact him.

Good luck!

Ideally I want 2009 or 2010 but I'm starting to think finding one optioned reasonably close to what I want may be unlikely. (looking for pse, sport seats, heated seats, spasm, 6spd, sprt shifter, thicker steering wheel, also I will prolly get a little touchy over color and may want sportdesign front apron...but not really wanting to spend money for heated steering wheel, power/ventilated seats, nav, etc).

I'm trying to get a realistic handle on how far I can go with this financially speaking because 75k-80k is one thing but having to pay MSRP on a six figure car is too much for me.

So my question is if I end up ordering a new car how much if any will the dealer come off MSRP? My dealer is Huntsville(AL) Porsche. They are relatively new(been there about 5 yrs) and currently only have about 11 vehicles in inventory.

If you've got any critiques of my option preferences, let fly on that too. Thanks!
I think considering your post and title you mean, when you order a car..

dealer has about 10% into the MSRP, varies because the base car is a little less than 10% but the options carry higher % of profit for them.

in ordering a brand new car you can usually get 5% easily, anything more is difficult...

cars on the lot left over usually have more room because PCNA will give them incentives to get them gone, and usually when they have the financing offer they have another offer for cash sales (cash off the top)

as far as past sales, (i notice some are showing that info) i bought an off the lot 09 THIS EXACT CAR

MSRP: $85,620 (PDK, XM, BOSE, Heated Steering/Seats, Self Dimming, Floor mats) currently comes around 90 with increases in MSRP.

Paid: $62,350+++ came to 64OTD because of tax savings from my trade..

Sold 16 months/16k miles later recently @ $63,750.

considering that, i would personally buy a previous year at a discounted rate, if i had paid 85+++=90+ and sold for 60k i would be really upset with myself... saying this as a person who just recently custom ordered a brand new porsche (i'll come up with a reason why i did what i did sooner or later)

if it had been an 08 leftover however i feel i would have lost more (09 was the first year with pdk and tons of new/fun looks/options)...

In Dec. I bought a new 2010 997 C2S over the phone. Once we agreed on the price the dealership e-mailed me the sales agreement which I printed and signed. I then scanned the document back to them. They in turn called me for my credit card # and I gave them $10,000.00. The car was delivered to me by auto carrier to my door a week later and the driver collected a certified cheque for the balance after we both inspected the car and I signed off. We did the same with the trade in, a 2006 997 C2 with 18,541Km. It was then loaded on the carrier and the driver left. It took all of 20 minutes.
I would only recommend doing this with a franchised Porsche dealer and only on a new car.
The new car has never been driven and is now sitting in my garage waiting for Spring.

Petee1997, congrats on the new car. I hope spring comes soon so you can get it out. Percentage wise what was you discount relative to MSRP?

gota911, ivangene(he's a great guy by the way) did some recon for me. He says the car is awesome but unfortunately reports that 15% off of msrp is not happening.

All I will say is that it was a great deal. You can PM me if you want exact numbers.

In any event the Toronto dealer beat my local dealer by $8,800.00 plus 13% tax on that amount. On top of that he paid the transport fees.

This was a first for me. Most of the negotiations were by e-mail and a few phone conversations over a period of two days. I have never been to that dealership nor have I ever met anyone from there. All in all, it was the best Porsche deal I have ever made and this sucker was my 6th new one since 1983.

Since that time I have checked their used car inventory and my trade is gone. They were probably gambling they could make it up on my 06 997 C2 with only 18541kms(11,495mi).

Your local dealer will be fine I think with having the car serviced there and will get back their $$ loss if you buy the car elsewhere on that end. Yeah they will be salty you didn't buy from/thru them if it goes down like that but they're big enough boys to know that you gotta get it serviced somewhere and aren't likely to take it back to Washington State to do so.

Yes JimJoe you got a great deal...I got a similar on on an 09 C2S in Jan 2010. It was MSRP'd at $99k and I think I paid $76k + PSE for $1500 added to the sales price installed by the dealer (since it didn't have it). Mine too had been on the lot for I think about 6+ months and was an 09 997.2 Carrera S launch car like your C4S and I too was offered the MSRP with 1.9% or $20k cash off the top. In those instances the launch cars were selling but dealers were having a handful that just sat and didn't move. My car had 75 miles on it and sold as new...warranty was punched I think in Dec 2009. So PCNA was and often gives up trunk money to the dealers to move them...thus the savings. I know cause I also looked at a C4S outfitted the SAME as your car JimJoe at a local dealer...same seats and sticker and everything..MSRP was like $110 or something and dealer wouldn't come down to where I wanted...in hindsight I could have gotten it for a similar price as you did jimjoe but the $76k for a brand new 09 S was just too good to pass up. So the amount off MSRP you seek PAVER is doeable but I think only on hard to move cars or special circumstances.

Good luck on the negotiations...the blue car is very very nice...however I don't think they'll give up the $91k you seek on it. Maybe the Arctic Silver one (that's lower priced) but I don't see them discounting all the blue car to that much...if my calculations are right....you offer is 20% off the MSRP and they'll probably hold it to sell it for more. I'd not be surprised to get the counter offer back from either the selling dealer in Wash OR you local dealer who you contacted for maybe $102k which would represent 10% off plus shipping on the blue one. But hey it is a buyers market...and the car is an 2010...so go for it. However at their asking price I'd likely be ordering a 911 GTS and asking for 5-6% off that MSRP on an '11 with all those nice GTS options!

Good luck!

I've driven the silver car, which is really nicely set up, and is a screamer. It's been on their lot since last May, when was on a business trip to Seattle. it listed at about 106k, the full leather was a nice touch in black under silver.

Barrier also have 2 '09 6-speed S cabriolets, now listed in their pre-owned section. I came very close to offering on the silver cab, full leather again, black/grey, ruffled seats (surprisingly comfortable! It made a nice difference on the butt). Missing only sat radio, if I recall. Carrera classic wheels on that one, which I also like (ymmv).

I drove the two silver cars around back-to-back when my wife and I were on vacation up there in August, to evaluate SPASM v. no-SPASM. (fwiw, I ended up with no-SPASM for my DD).

Both of those cars were in perfect shape in August, and Barrier seemed willing to give at least 20k off on the '09, which is what we started talking numbers on.

Also fwiw, I leased my '10 Carerra S at about $14k under sticker (which was 104.5), with PCNA contributing $5k of that, and also an incentive lease rate. Not so good as the '09 deals that abounded (but which I missed). I also may have left some money on the table, but am very happy with the car (very tasteful set of options, and almost none I didn't want to pay for).
