Default MSRP vs Actual Pruchase Price on ordered 997

I'm thinking of all my options before buying my first Porsche and need somebody to hold my hand a little bit. I want a 997 C2S.

Ideally I want 2009 or 2010 but I'm starting to think finding one optioned reasonably close to what I want may be unlikely. (looking for pse, sport seats, heated seats, spasm, 6spd, sprt shifter, thicker steering wheel, also I will prolly get a little touchy over color and may want sportdesign front apron...but not really wanting to spend money for heated steering wheel, power/ventilated seats, nav, etc).

I'm trying to get a realistic handle on how far I can go with this financially speaking because 75k-80k is one thing but having to pay MSRP on a six figure car is too much for me.

So my question is if I end up ordering a new car how much if any will the dealer come off MSRP? My dealer is Huntsville(AL) Porsche. They are relatively new(been there about 5 yrs) and currently only have about 11 vehicles in inventory.

If you've got any critiques of my option preferences, let fly on that too. Thanks!

Go to truecar.com or AAA or one of many other buying sites. You can spec. out a car they way you want. You will bet 3 dealerships within a distance range and it will give you a starting point. Unlikely that anyone will have exactly what you want but it gives you an idea of a starting point on discounts. Best of luck.

Of your preferred list of options, PSE, Sport Shifter, thicker steering wheel, and the front apron are easily added later, but will cost more that is already on the car.

Concentrate on finding a used 2009 or 2010 car with 6 speed, SPASM, sport seats and heated seats in the color(s) you want. Maybe something will show up. A used car, even with the "after purchase" options added later, will be cheaper that a new car order.

try the Porsche website. Car be easily be shipped across the country or do a road trip. Focus on options that can't easily be added afterwards. Others can be added after you own it

I'm not so sure that you are going to find anything in your price range on a built to order car. Dealers only get so many allocations, and some, like the Premiers, get more than others. If they have extra allocations and can't move them then maybe they'll deal a little but they don't have a whole lot of incentive to do so. I've read here that about five to seven percent off MSRP is what you can can expect from an ordered car. I can't remember exactly, but somewhere in that range is what I got when I ordered mine. Best of luck and as others have said, don't be shy about calling other parts of the country to find what you're looking for at the price you want to pay.

Exactly what I was thinking. Good advice.

Car prices, new and used are supposedly firming up for 2011.

75-80 seems a reasonable target for an '09. You can the Porsche USA Web site to search and get an idea what the used range is. I think it will search out 500 miles.

There happens to be a really cool car at Porsche of Albuquerque that comes pretty close to your desires. A 2010 C2s with sport seats, manual, aero kit. i think it's Cobalt blue/black leather seats, not full leather. MSRP somewhere around $115,000.

The practical side of me is definitely saying to follow gota911's advice. The problem is how long am I going to wait for the right 09 to surface. If I order, the countdown clock can go ahead and start ticking.

I stopped in at my dealer last night just as a fact-finding kind of thing. In a very casual conversation he offered to discount MSRP by 3-5% on an ordered car. Optioned like I want, a C2S MSRP is 107k. So, if they would come off all way upt to 7% that puts me right at 100 before taxes. It's doable for me but not preferred.

I had been looking at the car configurator on my Mac which doesn't display the "info" pictures for an option. Now that I have viewed it on a PC, I can see that there are some interior cosmetic options that would be cool to have. When I started this thread, I was resigned to mostly wanting performance options but now I'm changing my mind.

Decisions, decisions

problem may be solved: http://barrier.porschedealer.com/pre...55972/info.php
Dark Blue is actually one of the colors I really like.

The same dealer has this one as well: http://barrier.porschedealer.com/pre...55967/info.php

Do y'all think they would discount either of these by 10-12%?

(Stevepow, thanks. I hadn't found that search page before you mentioned it. I had been looking on autotrader and ebay.
Selo, thanks but the aerokit doesn't fit me very well.)

A couple of nice cars. The blue one has a bunch of rickrack on it that probably drove up the cost for nothing - maybe a special order that fell through.

The silver is closer to your budget.

It doesn't hurt to get your finances all lined up in advance so that you appear dead serious and then make a 15% off offer - if you are serious.

I particularly like the sport seats. These are both very nice cars. I'd ignore (or try to discount) some of the more exotic interior options in the blue car. Be ready to do business, be a bit insistent ... and good luck.

This is just one datapoint, and it is a bit of ancient history... but I bought a 2009 C4S in November 2009. Sticker was $112,135, I paid $89,500. No trade or dealer financing to muddy up the picture. The car had been at the dealer for a while, so I think they wanted to move it.
