Can't go wrong either way - SY is a great looking car though and looks a lot more "sports car". But it is not low key or conservative. I love to live vicariously through other's SY cars - but I love Black too - obviously.

imho, you have to like loud colors to go for the SY. I had an SY boxster that I felt quite conspicuous in. That said, its a sports car.. its supposed to be colorful and fun. Black is sleek and sexy. But I think if I see another "seal gray" porsche I am gonna puke! ( I know the guy with the gray 944 shouldn't say things like that... but I can't stand guards red, which is the other 944 color seen ad naseum around me)

Speed Yellow on a Porsche is perfect!

Ha? The two colours can't be any more different!
Personally, I don't really think Porsche looks good in Yellow, if wanna get brighter colours, red or blue would be my choices, on the dark side, I'd pick Gray over Black, too many black Porsches and they hide the curves of the car, silver/white are also both classic and great.
However, colour is very personal... so pick what looks FANTASTIC to you!

In my 30 years of various car ownership, I've had more red, yellow and black cars than any other. My last 3 sports cars where yellow, yellow, red. So it was time for black again when I got my 997.
If I were in your shoes (but being me), I would opt for Speed Yellow. Basalt Black is beautiful, but a any black car will turn one into a slave to keep it looking clean. Yellow on the other hand attracts not only cops, but lots of bugs in the spring.

My wife hates SY, but I like it. I think you'll find more varied opinions about it than Black which is a pretty conservative (but very nice) choice. Your initial comment is a bit of a giveaway; you're "nervous you may get sick of the color". IMO, SY is one of those colors that you either like or you don't. If you're ambivalent about it, it's probably not going to grow on you. If that's the case, you might be better off with black.

I had exact same dilemma. After 17 months in a SY.2 I can tell you that there are days that I wonder if I would have done it again. Then I take a good look at it and hell yes I'd do it again. That said, a Basalt Black 911 with black rims is a sick looking car as well. Both colors are equally noticeable. Yellow says "I am openminded, young, adventurous." Black says "I am secretive, confident, established". Both of these personalities appeal to women.
P.S. It's not true that Yellow attracts cops. Speeding does.

Play this one out in your head for a few days.
You own the Black Metallic one. You are driving your usual daily routes, enjoying the new Black Metallic Porsche. Off in the distance coming the other way you see something bright and fast....and the Speed Yellow model, same year and model, zips by on the other side. How long do you think about it?
Flip the scenario color-wise.
You'll find your answer.
Oh and I'll add one more comment on Black (non metallic). Black is a hobby, not a color.
I had two Guards Red Porsches before the silver one. Never thought I'd own silver. Yes, I love the flashy colors....would never own yellow myself, but Guards, for sure. Just happened that this silver beauty was on the ground, last of the GT1 block '09 Turbo Cabs to be had, equipped the way I'd have ordered it, so I went for it. No regrets.
