Default Is it only I??????????

Is it only I, that no matter how much wax I put on the windshield or how far I distance myself from the car in front of me...I always get a chip in my windshield directly in my eyesight in front of me.It really seems that the Porsche glass is softer then other car manufacturers.Anyways does it bug you members as much as I.Do you also have them in your direct eyesight?

Wax is going to do absolutely NOTHING for your glass other than make it a bit shiny. And yes, Porsche front glass is quite soft, just back off the cars in front of you when you are in traffic to avoid the chips.

I replaced two windshields in 2010 (13K miles driven).

I stay 12" from the car in front of me, and never get rock chips

on the windshield anyway

As a Porsche guy for many many decades, what you are discovering is that Porsche glass is very hard--it chips. In the past replacement glass (sourced in America) faired better, but I don't think there is anyone who makes a USA-manufactured windshield for the 997s. There is essentially nothing that you can do about it. Just stay back further. Remember, you have plenty of power for passing, so just keep the opening larger.

I have one right in my line of sight. Tried to have it repaired but it is still visible. Sometimes I don't see it but other times it just bugs me. I know that I'm just putting off the inevitable but I hate to spend $900 for a 2 - 3 mm defect in the windshield however strategically placed it may be.

Remember, depending on your insurance....IF a rock, brick or other debris just HAPPENS to break your windshield, you are usually covered for insurance. You might want to make sure you don't leave any prints though.

Just sayin'........
