Default GTS discount from dealer - your thoughts?

I finally got the chance to drive a GTS yesterday. OMG I'm in love!

Anyway. I contacted my local dealer. He has a car enroute, about a month away, that's almost exactly what I would order. Retail is 119600. Tonight I received a quote on a 3 year lease. I'm extremely interested but I'm also a bit put out.

Salesman offered a $1K "courtesy" discount off MSRP "because you are a loyal client." I'll say.

From this dealer I've bought or leased the following new cars:

'05 Audi S4 Avant
'07 Audi RS4
'08 C2
'09 C2S
'10 Panamera 4S

So this would be my 6th car from this dealer in less than 6 years, not to mention service on all the above plus referrals. I sent in a friend who just purchased an '08 Cayenne last weekend.

I think the $1K discount is kind of insulting. I'd be less offended if the salesman (not my usual guy, for whatever that's worth - but he knows me) hadn't mentioned discount at all.

What do you think - am I right or overreacting? Are these really going at full MSRP to such steady customers?

Not only is it insulting, he's clearly not interested in selling that car to you. Take it up with the sales manager--at a minimum. $1K is nothing. Especially in this economic climate.

I'd agree. $1000 doesn't even cover sales tax on the car or many options on the list you'd want or add. I'd go to the sales manager and remind him of your loyalty and your interest as well as your ability to go to another dealer to find/procure your new love/toy. Good luck!

So I would start at $118600 and work down from there.

Shop around. Soon there will be plenty of GTS heavily discounted. It always happens with these end of model parts bin specials.

All the experts on Rennlist will tell you you're getting ripped off, and that of course you can get a big discount on a GTS like every other 911.

And then there are those who have actually bought them.

I'lll let you decide who has better info.

If you want a discount, take your chance and wait until the new 911 comes up, it should be no more than 6 month from now I bet. When this happens, there will be a couple of GTS still there as everyone will want the new model.

Would you have bought a 40th anniversary 996 after seeing the new 997 ? I don't think so ... still the 996 40th anniversary was damned tempting at the time.

Same for the 964 40th anniversary before the 993 came out...

and so on

I would definitely be insulted. Don't contact them. Let them call you back and then tell them how you really feel. There's a lot of dealerships out there that will want your business. This dealership knows you are a regular and will come back to them so they obviously don't have to earn your business. Don't make a big deal about it since they want to make the most money too, but also don't be in a hurry to get things done. Unless you don't really care about money and would do anything for the car.

1% discount is insulting without a doubt for such a loyal customer like you. I don't care how desirable the car is. If I were you I would certainly not call them back or even buy from them in the future for having treated you the way they have. I was insulted in a similar fashion with my P-car dealer after having bought two cars from them. They started off with a 1% discount on a custom order for a 2011 Cayenne. I then called around and my next nearest dealer in Oregon right off the bat offered a 5 % discount. The original dealer then called me and offered a 3 and then 4 % discount two weeks later. Even though it would have been convenient for me to order from them, as a principle I did not want to give them any more business for having insulted me. Many here may not know the fact that dealers are having a hard time keeping the 2011 Cayennes on the lot. Many dealers have one dedicated demo vehicle just for potential customers to atlas look at one. So shop around, let me know if I can be of assistance. I have a good working relationship with my OR dealer. GTS is a very nice car but it's not something that is so special that one cannot give a decent discount on ... and 1% is not a discount IMO.

I was offered a discount where you bought your car to try to get me to move out of my current car. I'm not trying to start something, just stating the facts. That was in November. I posted a thread.

First of all it is a car you didn't spec yourself, so that would be worth less to me than one that was. Depending on how much you like it, I would buy for 5% off at a minimum. As someone else mentioned, the 991 will be here relatively soon and likely will be better than a GTS.

I'm paying full msrp for my GTS and am happy. I have bought 9 Porsches from them over the last 15 years and got various discounts on some depending on demand, if it was already on their lot, etc. No discount on mine but I will get free clear corners . My dealer only got one allocation and several wanted it. I got to order it exactly how I wanted and a courtesy $1,000 wouldn't make any difference- I didn't even ask for one. They take great care of me and I'm thrilled I got it. To each his own-

I think you should let your regular sales guy know that one of his co-workers has left a bad taste in your mouth. It's not your guy's fault and I'm sure he'd like to know if one of the other guys was potentially costing him business.
