That's basically the exact car I'm interested in buying later this year. do you mind sharing about how much it cost, out the door?

Enjoy

what's the reading again about the DME ?
Did you really walk away from some cars only because of the DME ?

Sure - dealer wanted $59k and I offered $56, didn't budge, and paid $56k. I think the car is worth $52-54k and the CPO is worth an additional $2-4K. I bought it from a dealer near New York City, so no doubt paid a bit of a premium due to location.

DME readouts are covered ad nauseum on Rennlist, but I was looking for a car with NO DME readings in Ranges 4/5/6, and just a few in Ranges 1-3. Porsche supposedly will not CPO a car with Ranges 5 & 6s, and for some reason Range 4s are considered grey area. I did walk from a car with significant numbers in ranges 1-4 despite a "perfect" options list because my local tech in Utah reviewed the numbers, and said that the local Porsche zone rep would most likely reject the car for an significant warranty work due to "abuse" DESPITE the CPO warranty. Keep in mind that these readins are actually "ignitions" at various RPM levels above redline. Getting up to Range 5 and 6 are some pretty significant overrevs (money shifts - 5th to 2nd - most likely).

Some purists argue that the cars should be driven hard to break them in and prevent carbon deposit build up. I chose to buy the garage queen, and flog it myself. I have done this on all of my used 911s over the years, and ALL have been maintenance free automobiles. Perhaps I am the exception...

Here is a good thread on DMEs: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...port-help.html

997 DME ranges follow (thanks RonCT!)
Range 1-RPM Range 7,300-7,500
Range 2-RPM Range 7,500-7,700
Range 3-RPM Range 7,700-7,900
Range 4-RPM Range 7,900-8,400 (Some damage)
Range 5-RPM Range 8,400-9,500 (Damage)
Range 6-RPM Range 9,500-11,000 (Damage)
