OT BMW 6 Series
Is it me or does the BMW 6 series look really dated already? I am not sure what it is. It might be the overall design of the back end. This goes for the convertible as well as the coupe

I like it - but it's a little "boaty"

Those new photos are certainly an improvement. Chris Bangle's creative direction for the 6 and 7 series as well as the Z 4 was never to my liking. OTOH I really loved the e46 M3

Here's a look at the new 2012 650i Convertible. I am sure the coupe is very similar.

BMW design teams are crazy. I don't know what the hell they are thinking. I know it's just my opinion but I also agree that the new 6 is completely uninteresting. Why did they mess up the front kidney grill design so badly with the new generation? The car has lost all its masculinity and now just looks like a fat, boring, middle-aged man whose testosterone levels have dropped way off the charts. This may describe a bunch of us on this forum but it shouldn't describe our cars!
I have such negativity because I grew up with BMWs and loved them right up to the Bangle days. An M6 from the 80s still looks beautiful to this day! I also agree that the last generation M3 still is a good-looking car -- especially in Phoenix Yellow...
Having said all that, the new 5 and 7 series seem to have some good design qualities.

Three Wheelin'
Hmm - still not loving it. The rear looks like it was designed by a committee - each doing a separate layer, like a wedding cake. And now it is taking on a sort of Volvo'ish look - like a Volvo and a 3er had offspring.
I have to agree, the best looking 6ers were from years ago. Why can't they get more of a Z8 thing going with it?

Burning Brakes
I looked hard at a 6 series. Really hard. Then thought, if I want a car that can really only accommodate 2 adults and has minimal luggage space and cost a lot of money...? So I bought a 997.
Never regretted it.

BMW needs to totally re-define itself. Right now, they are de-Bangling by homogenizing the 7, 6, and 5 series in such a way that there is no real excitement (oh so boring) between these models. "Okay how does this one look? And this one? How about this one?" They all look like variations on the same theme; and I hate saying that, but it is what it is. Furthermore, the reports I'm hearing about time spent in svc depts fixing crap is not good news. I'm a huge Bimmer fan from the earlier days and especially the '87-'88 M6 (what wonderful cars), its almost as though BMW has lost its "soul" if that's a fair assessment.
I'm cringing at the thought of what the new 8 or CS series they are developing will turn out like.
Now back to wonderful Porsches...
