PDK vs manual turbo
Hello everyone. I just sold my C2S after three years and I am now building a turbo. I thought I would post here as well for additional insight. What are current thoughts regarding manual vs PDK? I know if I want the fastest possible car I should go PDK, but I really enjoy a manual. I have read that 90% of turbo owners opt for PDK but I seriously think I may be in the 10% minority who prefers a manual. Thanks.

Kidding aside, I rented a 2011 PDK Carrera and found it responsive and fun to use. I didn't miss pushing in the clutch. It didn't have the paddle shifters but I would opt for them. A sport chrono equipped car would be better for this transmission due to faster shifting -- what I'm told. If I wanted to DD the car in traffic I personally would go PDK. If only used for the weekend I would see either option as okay.

If I were buying a turbo (which I doubt I ever will, so I don't know what my view counts for) I would get PDK. And that's from someone who is firmly in the manual camp.
I think if you want the fastest and heaviest 911, then you won't be troubled by the 25kg weight disadvantage of the PDK, nor would you want to compromise the Turbo's trump card, its out and out acceleration, with older, analogue technology.
And, a thought on resale:
You'll shift (pardon the pun) a PDK-equipped car quicker and for more cash. I can just hear the dealer: "Manual shift? Turbo? Not much call for those...."

I sound like a broken record (remember those?), but for most driving, i.e., around town, running errands, etc., a PSK or DSG (like I have in my GTI) is responsive but uninvolving.
You feel more involved with the car at every minute when driving a manual. No doubt its time with us is shrinking, so enjoy it while you can.
When you're lucky enough to build your own Porsche, are you really thinking about resale? Maybe I'm too naive or the others are smarter and cynical, but jeez, get what you want. Drive both and report back with your decision.

i would buy it with PDK. but I would not get a turbo - I would get gt3 rs for this amount of money. to each his own.

I just drove a PDK (not turbo though) yesterday and my daily driver is a stick so they're both fresh in my mind.
If you ever lusted after an 80's (or earlier) porsche, or if you ride motorcycles, and you love the engaging feel of manual you should think long and hard about the manual.
If you're all about going fast and you're into modern performance it'd be tough to beat the PDK. The PDK is damn nice... it's crazy to feel the blips on downshifts and you still get the great solid powerful connection between engine and drivetrain. This is NOT the slushbox tiptronic that you may have driven in the past. It's also the car that you might want to think about if you've got a S.O. that doesn't drive manual well or if you think you might want to have a cup of coffee while you drive or if you drive a lot in stop and go traffic.
All that being said, I'd go manual myself because I fall into the former camp... but I sure wouldn't fault you for either. Blondes or Brunettes?

If your car will be a Turbo S, you won't have a choice, they only come with the PDK.
I can't help but wonder how many of the posters above who're adamant about the car having a 6-speed own cars with a 6-speed.
I believe most (all?) of us who own PDK equipped cars would recommend the PDK. It sorta works that way...
