Default Northern Cal Rt 1 Road Trip

After another successful Northern California road trip!

Cattails and pompas grass, along Rt 1 near Sea Ranch. Bodega Bay on the horizon, and of course, old Fort Point in SF.

Wow, Dan...that's really awesome. I wish we had some places like that around here. The scenery is one of the few things that would tempt me to move to CA (that and the weather).

Beautiful - one of the most picturesque places on the planet.

I miss that coast line - but, upside is, gotta trip planned for next July. Downside is, flying out - no Porsche.

We discovered that this time of year can be really outstanding for Route 1 (no RVs at all!) and the locals are really good about using the turnouts. There are few turnouts on the southern half of California's Route 1 (Big Sur). Route 1 north of SF is far nicer.

Been several years since I have been, but that stretch between SF and Big Sur is my fav - the scenery just blows my mind.

Dan inspired my lunch time run to the Santa Cruz mountains today. Here are some shots at the vista point on top of Hwy 9. To view the spot on a map use these coordinates (37.245011,-122.144886) or click HERE:

View towards the southeast, towards Monterey Bay:

If you're a movie buff, in the shot of Ft.Point note the jersey barrier and chain-link fence in the background. That's been there for 6 or so plus years. Just beyond it are the steps that Kim Novak walked down (and into the Bay) in Vertigo (and Jimmy Stewart consequently went in after her). You used to be able to walk right up to them. If you saw the movie and then went to those steps you'd notice that absolutely nothing had changed in that location since 1958.

Remember that scene well. I used to live in that area when that was shot in 1957.

Dan, that 1st shot with the pampas grass lining the road, the yellow line in the middle, the sides of road on either side, and the trail of clouds above, all lining up, looks fantastic! Plus the p car pointing ahead, classy

I drove Hwy 1 from Monterey to Lucia past Big Sur today. It was a good drive, although with more (slow) traffic than I anticipated for this time of the year. Even Ventana was full for lunch.
