Default Why can't Porsche make a door that closes with a solid sound?

The darn thing sounds like a tin can! My wife's Volvo and my Toyota truck sound like a car door should. It's almost embarising to shut it in front of someone. Can anyone tell me why it would be so hard to get it right?

maybe due to the frameless glass? do your truck and volvo have door frames?

I really don't notice that though - door seems solid enough.

993 and older. Go close one of those doors and see what you think. Rock solid.

And those cars have a frame around the glass - at least the coupes do. I always like a framed door better too - seem to always fit better and seal up tighter.

The 993 was outstanding. My 10 RS sounds way better than any previous model except the 993. They changed something on the RS for sure.

P-car sounds okay. My Bimmer makes a sickening: "ka-chunk!" Then again: no trouble with either, they just sound less-than-solid.

Funny you mention this - I just had a passenger today comment on the solid feel of the door... YMMV

I have nearly ripped some doors off the cars, being used to BMWs and now the 911 - like a friends Nissan or Toyota maybe?...like it was balsa wood.

What "kills" me is my wife is naturally very hyper. When getting into the P-car she rips open the door from the handle very fast - before the window has a chance to open the 1/2 inch the way it is supposed to. Oh well..., at least the sex is good.

I like the frameless glass. It's easier to get in/out in tights spots. I thought the overall materials was a bit lighter than other cars, so the "thud" wouldn't be the same as say a MB.

I don't know............I'm always impressed with the solidness of the door close each and every time I close one! I've had 4 different 911s and they've always been rock solid.

I'm confused

Is this an important topic for P-car enthusiasts? Just asking.
