The P-car door shuts just fine.

The car is NOT a 2.5 ton Bentley.

If anybody complains to you tell them, "You idiot! Don't you know carbon fiber doors all sound cheap - to untrained ears like yours - because they are so strong, lightweight and expensive advanced technology. Gesus! Get over it!"

You are so correct! This thread is the poster child of the emerging (current) sports car owner. It's 'sports' only in image.

As I posted way above, my 2010 RS has doors that close with a very "quality" sound. Far better than my 09 4S. I noticed it the first time I met my car in the dealer delivery area. I can't say if all the 10s sound like this but they did something diffent on the RS.

I think someone needs to do a blind-folded sound test...

when the car is used properly, you do not hear the doors open nor close - in, fact, unsafe to do so

and once you are done, if the door is the main thing on your mind, this may not be the car for you.

Guys, I'm sorry to hear so many of you are dissatisfied with your 997s because the doors don't close with the same precision and quality of the 964. I think you all understand why 996s and soon 997s have/will slip in value below 964s as they have 993s. Don't feel too bad though, I'm sure door-quality-sound is Porsche's #1 priority for the 991. I mean...why else make it bigger and heavier if not for a better door-shut sound?

;-)

When you buy a Porsche, chances are it is an emotional decision. There are many small details that add to that warm fuzzy feeling that the car gives you.

I do not think that anyone is trying to say that your 997/6 is less of a car than another, but there is a feeling of solidity that Porsches had with the framed windows that is simply not as impressive in the frameless window cars.

I for one love the sound of the older cars, and that does not lessen the brilliance of the newer cars.

Agreed, the RS sounds very light weight, tight and tough. Everything about this car is prefect.

i had my delaer try to align the doors on my pcar. they succeeded on the drivers side and failed on the passenger side. driver side sound solid, passenger sounds like the glass is not flat of what. really awful. some of the cars on the dealer showroom i tested and some sounded great some sounded bad. so i really think its a matter of alignment. im sure Porsche took this into consideration.
