Default How much off MSRP on a new 997?

The recent poor economy has produced a good opportunity to purchase a new P-car. How much off MSRP on a new 997 have people managed to attain? ( A 911 has been the car of my dreams for about 40 years. This is my first. ) I'll start.

Year and Model: 2009 Carrera S Coupe
Leftover: Yes
Date of Purchase: February 2010
Months on the lot: 11 Months
Percent off MSRP: 19% not included tax.

I also took advantage of the economy and realized I never would be able to purchase a Porsche at such a large discount. I purchased my 2009 C2S for $23,000 off sticker new. It is still odd though since I need to explain to some friends and customers that I really didn't pay $100,000+. I looked for 2 months all over the country and missed a few since originally the wife wasn't on board until she then realized the discount.

This reminds me of the cartoon where the wife, holding a pile of hat boxes, cheerfully tells her husband that she "saved" him $1000 today because the "hats were on sale."

Pretty much the same for me.... Been buying cars and trading up over the years and when the great discounts came into play I just couldn't pass it up. I ending up trading my Cobra roadster to the dealer instead of selling it myself. Broke my heart to trade it in but they actually gave me a decent price for the car.
With the discount and the resonably fair trade it was a no-brainer.

That was '09 - huge supply of cars sitting on the lots. They cut '10 production dramatically so as not to have to dump them again. Still, I reckon you could get 15% off at least, but slim picking. 10% maybe on an '11 - almost 9% for sure if you use American Express buy service.

997 production is way down now (Porsche is reeling from this depression) so the deals are not what they were. (I think the 08 models were the most depressed).

I would be extremely surprised to see someone get 9% off an '11 order, given the margin on an '11 is only ~10%. Expect to get more like 3-6% off on orders (unless you find a dealer who is having sluggish sales), and maybe 5-10% (maybe more) off lot sales whenever Porsche releases incentive money.

The dealer I purchased from stated that yes Porsche did overship to the US on 2009 models and the factory was making deals. This was not promoted you had to go the the dealers website then research specific cars. They didn't last long. I know of only one dealer here in Southern California that was discounting this much but to find my C2S I had to buy in New Hampshire.

As an aside, there is a particular Porsche dealer up here in the greater SF Bay area, who snapped-up virtually every new '08-'09 MY car off of as many lots across the USA as they could that were left over... they sold 'em all too. I missed a beautiful '08 C2 Cab in midnight blue (manual trans) that they had for a substantial markdown. What a tear-jerker deal that was. I'd much prefer the newer DFI engine, but the color was stunning and is now discontinued. Yeah, it sold fast.

This tactic boosted the dealer's standing with Porsche in regards to quotas and allotments. Brilliant move on their part.

Realistically, you should be able to haggle down to 8% off without cutting your wrists. Mark-up is normally 12% on new 911s, not counting dealer hold-back, dealer incentives, etc (those things we mere mortal consumers aren't supposed to see).

If you get $23K off a new 911, it's because you're married to the owner's daughter.

Do the Amex thing and see for yourself - comes out to around 8.7% off depending on options. http://amexnetwork.zag.com/main.html...FcNe7AodGx5APg

Markup is higher on options - I forget, but it is either 10%/12% or 12%/14% car/options.

They just hook you up with a dealer who agrees to get you the car you spec'd for the price quoted. I suppose if one is not on the lot, they try to locate one and get as close as they can - I don't know if they'd order you a car for that or what though. Should be a reasonable number of 10 and 11's around though to get a decent car.

Buy your new 997 now-- I mean within the next several months, or you'll regret it.

Leftover 2009's at 20+% off MSRP were the sale of the century (100K cars for 78K, or so). Less of a discount for 2010's and even less for 2011's.

The hammer hits in 2012 with the new 991 body style. 911 prices will likely skyrocket in the USA, to better match real world prices everywhere else, and to distance itself from the other porsche/audi offerings. It will be even worse if the dollar continues its expected fall. Don't be surprised if a new decently-optioned 991 C2S will cost $125-135K next year.

I had the dealer down 12% on a 2010 C2 purchase. I don't believe they would go down much more as he stated they would break even on this deal. I ended up buying a 2007 CS2 CPO with low miles.

negotiations were much better last year given the abundance of stock and economy.. the lack of production has made current deals nowhere near what they were due to lack of supply.

best of luck on the hunt.. deals are much different this year.. I've been trying to buy a new porsche and dealers are much harder to deal with and stick with their guns and don't seem to care about selling cars (unfortunate for buyers)
