rear deck lid model designation

Ya "911" is a factory option. These cars are still considered 911's by Porsche. 997 is only the internal designation.
I have never seen 911S but save your "S" and paint it black and see how it looks. Can't hurt to mock it up next to the 911.

not so simple to "take it off" bthe s that is as alignment requires centering with the s- you'd have to remove the entire thing and start over. Double stick adhesive is painstakingly difficult to reattach to the numbers after the huge PIA of removing the prior double stick from the emblem. Don't ask me how I know

Thanks
thanks for the kind words....

IOW, once you remove the item it becomes suitable only for use as a curiosity on your dresser top or desk at work.

thanks for the input, everyone! i'm almost positive i will remove the "Carrera S", as the "Ca" is coming off anyway due to numerous towel snags - it's amazing it hasnt broken. i'm thinking i will at least put on the 911 (sans an "S") just to see how it looks. if i dont like it, it all comes/stays off and i go commando.

Here's how I did it in 10 minutes or less..
While the Carrera script was still on the car I put a 10" (+/-) piece of 1" blue painter's tape on the engine cover ('hood'), ensuring the top edge of the tape was precisely aligned with the bottom of the Carrera script. Then I measured the distance from one side of the 'hood' to the other along the top of the blue tape, divided it by 2, and made a small mark on the tape so I'd know where the center of the hood was.
Then, using a piece of thin nylon string (I used a piece of parachute suspension line that I use when I go camping), I gently started at the left end of the script - under the "C" - and gently 'sawed' it back and forth while slowly moving the string to the right.
The Carrera script came off in no time.
Leaving the blue tape in place, I used a small amount of 3M adhesive remover to quickly remove the remaining adhesive from where the script had been, then I put a light coat of wax on the hood where I used the 3M remover.
I aligned the '911' script so the center of the bottom of the numbers was precisely over the center-mark on the blue tape, removed the protective covering from the two side tape and gently pushed the numbers onto the hood. I pulled off the blue tape, sprayed the whole area with some Mother's details spray, and presto!.. job done.
For those who haven't seen the '911' 'badge' (I got mine from Suncoast), the numbers comes attached to a piece of clear plastic film, already aligned, and it's nearly foolproof to install so they're straight. It's not as if you have to install three separate numbers - you don't.
It really is a piece of cake to do right.
