What is the best way to remove the original model designation intact without harming the paint. Just curious.

also, did any 997 models actually come with or could they be ordered with an OEM "911" or "911S"? or is this an aftermarket thing?

any pix would be much appreciated and thanks thanks in advance.
Since you have and S and the S has been on the 911 since the 60s or at least the 70s, I would put it on.

I was driving a manual rental (****fting w/ the left hand is very strange on top of other side of the road, etc.) and that was a wild experiance!!

My old '88 was ordered from the factory with designation "delete" option. I thought it looked very cool. The car really speaks for itself and doesn't need a label IMHO.

IF it's held in place by adhesive, you can leave the car parked with the emblem facing the sun (CA/AZ method), or use (carefully & slowly) a heat gun or blow dryer. Once you feel that the adhesive is beginning to soften, take a long strip of dental floss -- I prefer the stuff made of Gore-Tex, as it's thin and slippery -- then stretch the floss tight between both hands and slowly begin to work it between the paint and adhesive. Once you've made a little progress, it should be relatively east to get some purchase with a fingernail and slowly pull off the emblem. This has always worked for me...

I would not add the S for sure but then I wouldn't change the designation either. I never liked the 911 designation no matter what the year ot the model.

Clean it really well, get dirt out from behind it.

Then use dental floss between the paint and the emblem to "saw" thru the foam part of the double-sided-foam tape adhesive.

How would you recommend getting rid of the adhesive glue that is left on the car. Would you use Goo Gone (that honey colored stuff)?

I like the left hand shifting better.

If your car is blue or black, I would add the red 'S' next to the 911 script. It's factory, it's available, and would look great. Akin to using different factory wheels, say turbo ones, etc. And your car really is a 911S, so I think it's classy. But that's just me, eh

Spiffyjiff,

Do what YOU think will look best and don't worry about what others think, especially on a part that only costs $95 and can easily be removed if you later decide you don't like it. Happy motoring!

The citrus based stuff (Goo-Gone) is good. The stuff with acetone (Goof Off) in it is bad. Lighter fluid (kerosene-ish) stuff works too. I have high confidence in this application. Double check what I'm saying by Googling or searching RL.

Do whatever you want. The last "911S" label was in 1977 in America. The chromed "911" we see occasionally these days is on the 996 cars that were anniversary cars.

I just opted for mine to b painted to match the car -- so it's not in your face that much.

Another angle of car when staged for the avatar shot:
