rear deck lid model designation
i am replacing my silver "Carrera S" model desig with a "911" in black. my asthetic question (and slightly ego oriented?) is: should i add an S as well? i know the 911S logo ended sometime in the late 70's but...well, technically my car IS an "S"! :P
also, did any 997 models actually come with or could they be ordered with an OEM "911" or "911S"? or is this an aftermarket thing?
any pix would be much appreciated and thanks thanks in advance.

I wouldnt.
Those who know look at exhausts and brakes to tell the S from the non S. Those who dont, wont know that the S makes a difference and what that is...
If what you are after is the classic look, I would stick with a plain 911. I think it looks classy and elegant.

You can do whatever you want. However, if you respect the brand you shouldn't mangle a designation. If you want to substitute 911 fine, even though I see no point in doing so.

I'd put a hold on it for two weeks. If after two weeks you're still hot on changing it you can do so. Gotta separate the hormonal surges this car creates from the logical thinking the mind is capable of.
I think that "911" designation on a 997 was used for some special edition car from a few years ago (anybody know for sure?). If so, technicality-wise, you'd be identifying/associating your car with that one. Then again it really doesn't matter because the "911" shows up everywhere now and then (illogical but true hormones again)
Here is the "911" on a 996 anniversary edition:

Nah. Just repeating what I heard. BTW, if you do decided to make the change? Spend an hour making some sort of jig on the rear deck so you can apply the new "9" "1" "1" so they're perfectly spaced and aligned. Nothing looks worse than a close look revealing an imperfect stick job. Sort of like a crooked set of exhaust tips: looks baaaaad (in a bad way). Of course that assumes the viewer and the owner are "****." See other thread.

FULLY agree. and i've already thought thru how to go about it - painters tape and grease pencil marking boundries/placement of old logo, using a level etc etc - but in addition, the logo from bumperplugs comes perfectly spaced and slanted and "reverse stuck" to a piece of rectangular install tape. (hope that makes sense?? i.e. logo is essentially sandwiched betw 2 pieces of tape right now)

no S was optioned/allowed... was simply "911" in matte black or chrome.. please make sure they center it properly too when installing ;-)

I toyed with the idea.. finally decided to pull the trigger. No regrets.. I actually like the '911' better than the "Carrera" that was on the car when I bought it.
Personally, I think adding an 'S' to the '911' would be a bit over the top.
