And the 911's an overgrown beetle. If the car is great, the car is great.

My seat-time in Astons is restricted to the DB9. However, I have tracked the car, and pushed it pretty hard. Aston has some impressive engineering, but that DB9 definitely feels more GT than sports car, while the 911 is better able to straddle both segments. Based on others' comments about the Vantage, I suspect the Vantage is similar to the DB9 in that aspect. The cars are certainly significantly different, so I'd suggest you need to determine which aspects of which car you want. That should help you decide if you want to try the Aston's way of doing things. Remember, you can always come back to a 911 later, if you decide you prefer the 911.

Once in a 911 you can never forget the experience. But this is a lesson you have to learn yourself... And as there are no free lessons in life, it will cost you some money.

In my limited experience, you are not going to get the sharp dryving dynamics of a 911 in many other cars. You get a similar feel in a Honda S2000 or a Lotus Exige but they don't have that "grown up" car feel. I find cars like the M3 to be a bit too soft. A friend just bought a Lexus IS350 convertible and while it's fast off the line, it feels like you're driving a bus.

Why not try a SLS? I'm not a big fan of Mercs but that one is a car that I would like to try... It's a bit expensive though...

I too have been tempted by a used Vantage. It is heavier, slightly slower, more of a GT etc. But it performs well, is enjoyable to drive and it also has an undeniable presence and beauty that the 911 lacks.

I'm keeping the 911- for me it's still the best. But I can certainly understand the temptation and would love to own one someday.

Sure. And cost is one of the "aspects of the cars" to keep in mind. Is it worth it to JackQ? That's something he has to decide.

I am sorry, that's simply non-sense!

So American cars in US turn heads too?

I was shocked at just how big and heavy an Aston feels when you're in it. It starts to feel a bit more nimble above 50 mph or so, but at low speed it feels like a big old Detroit boat.

My friend who has one uses it for showing up at events in style. Very good car for that. Very overrated as a driver's car IMO.

Isn't there a new v12 version... 500+ hp. That ought to help with the "heavy" feel.

Who compared? I was highlighting that it's just not true! The statement that a local car turns heads because it's local is just non-sense! Vauxhall Corsa is a UK car, does it turn heads in UK? As someone who has lived/worked there, I'd say no!

The opposite is actually true! A Vette doesn't stand out much in the US, while it turn heads in UK or across Europe as it's quite rare. I've seen people take pics of Vette parked on the street in Europe, I don't think that happens that often in the US!

Aston Martin is just a stunning car, anywhere in the world!

Aston is the British equivalent of Ferrari/Maserati, so all the same rules apply. If you can swing a Vantage, then why not, the car is absolutely stunning. Just make sure it comes with a warranty and you have another decent car to drive if it has to go back to the dealer for a fix or two.

You're just lucky enough to have this problem.
Ignore what the rest of us say. Pick the one that keeps you excited. That's what these cars are for.
Good luck and have fun.
