I saw it is limited, the real question is if it is limited enough to attract enough buyers to blow an additional $90k over a GTS Cab to only get a lower windshield, hard tonneau and different rear bumper? How about this, why not buy a fully loaded Turbo S Cab and pocket the rest or 2 Boxster Spyders and swap 3.8l X51 engines in both for the same money? Sorry, but anyone willing to pay the asking price for this one is a sucker in my book. If the pricing was set reasonable like the 964 Speedster, I would be all for it. At this ridiculously inflated price, it is just a joke.

BTW, I feel the opposite about the GTS. For just $13k over the price of a regular Carrera S, you get a wider body, ground effects, an X51 engine ($17k option on the S), center lock spyder wheels ($3k on the turbo), Alcantara trim ($3k on the S). For how little this package is priced over a regular S, I can't see any reason to not spend the extra money on this package if you are looking to buy an S and are not looking to step up to a GT3.
I wouldn't suggest for a moment that there isn't plenty of margin in this price but it is important to note the tremendous cost in manufacturing only 356 examples. Not to mention 356 windshield headers, tonneau covers, modified rollover protection etc...

I'm confident in saying that the component cost increase for the Speedster over the regular Cab is greater than that of the GT2 vs. Turbo. That doesn't make it a "good deal" or even "good value" but there's big cost to do something this different from a regular production model.

I am not buying it about the amount of effort it takes to produce this. Porsche is a manufacturing company, they could knock this out standing on their heads. The cost of 356 copies is marginal relative to a regular 997. I would bet the extra cost is less than 50K. Probably in the order of maybe 20K at most.

Wide body - already have it.
Engine - already have it.
Roof - new
Windshield - new
Cover - new
Interior painted bits - already have it
Stitching in interior - already have it

Think about this - I would bet they make 200K profit on each one of these.

356 copies x $200K profit per car = $71M net

Thats not too shabby.

I think it should be priced at $356K - for consitency in branding - just makes sense.

Agree that for Porsche to produce these they would be incompetent manufacturers if they couldn't do it for under $10,000 a copy over a normal 997S cabriolet. They have proven that it's just not that hard, and how much can a few fancy leather pieces and a metal plaque run them?

Just curious if anyone on this board is going to get one, i.e. cough up over $200K to get one or is this just an interest post?

I hate to suggest it, but I already have something that looks a hell of a lot like that car. It's blue, has PCCBs, makes great sounds, and has what I consider a nicer interior (my taste) than that regular black leather stuff. I love the sound of my 997.1 S engine with PSE WAY OVER the sound of any 997.2 engine. When I finally put my forged Fuchs on it it will be close. (And I saved about $70K!)

Not to get off track, but how different is the 997.2 + PSE sound compared to the 997.1? I loved my 997.1 w/PSE and pulled the plug to enable it all the time. On a test drive, the 997.2 default sound was definitely more sedate.

The double bubble arches really does it for me, I think it stands out from the rest of the 911 range drastically.

Deformed humpback, pointless, ugly to the point of embarrasment.

Hey VW Board: The 911 is not the Golf! Leave us alone. Go look for petty sales in Skoda, VW or some other line of products. You surely have plenty.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I like it. It's not an RS, but it would look great between the '07 and the '10.

VW didnt do this. This was on the drawing board for 997 end of life years ago. Long before the takeover nonsense.

Frankly if Porsche's hubris hadnt gotten in the way they would not now be part of VW. They could have kept doing what they were doing as they were making obscene amounts of $$ and would continue to be independent.
