Have you been ensuring the fundamental maintenance issues are being handled? E.g., spark plugs at 4 years, ail filter, etc.

This doesn't seem exact to the symptoms of the HPFP failures...car starts fine.
if issue you have now looks consistent - try to reset ECU by disconnecting battery for 10-15min.

when you will go after MAF sensor - also check insides of throttle body if it shows any signs of oil there or not.

when it got stalled, were RPMs higher than 2K or lower?

No issues with maintenance...car has 2700 miles and less than 6 months old. Only 2 items that were different in past:
1. I just came off a few hours of hard driving at the track (1st time).
2. I recently overfilled my oil, removed filter and emptied 1/4 quart.

When it stalled both times, it was below 2k...clutch was depressed and I was in 2nd gear (no foot on the gas).

Also, drove it about 10 miles today without any issues...

997 has a hi-rev engine, just do not torture it like that. it likes to be in 3k+ RPM area, especially while climbing up.
