Cold start to spirited driving - how long do you wait?

I don't necessarily look at temps, I look at the Oil pressure gauge, if it's less than 2 bars, you are good to go. That so happens to be about 175 oil temp. I still don't just punch it though as soon as I see that temp though.

What is the relationship between oil temperature and pressure? My pressure is pretty much always at 4-5 when driving, and drops to 1-2 when standing at a light. Never noticed any change with engine temperature.

This is even more nebulous on the 997.2 cars since they have multiple oil pumps that are computer controlled to put different pressures at different parts of the motor depending upon what is going on. To that end, I have no clue what the pressure gauge shows on my car!

Anyway, the higher the temp, the lower the pressure at idle, but the oil does flow better. Of course, if it gets too hot, depending on the oil, you could be loosing some of the protecting properties of it.
Again, this is for a mechanical type pump like the 997.1.

Is the for the 997.2? I'm talking about a 997.1 which has a mechanical pump that is different from the 997.2.

So for those that track their cars are we to idle the car or drive it in the lot to warm them up? It's not uncommon to have almost an hour and a half between sessions sometimes and when my group is called I get into the car and the oil temp gauge is usually back at the 150 mark. From my observations most aren't warming their cars up, pretty much just get into the lineup and go. Other posts have mentioned that prolonged idling to warm up a car aint' good either. Guess it's one of those damned if you do and damned if you don't situations
