I joined a couple of years ago and am now active in the Jersey Shore Region chaptor.

Done the DE's, attended concours, some motorsports meeting, x-mas party, etc. Very nice bunch of guys with no egos. Great help in getting me started in DE's. Some terrific drivers also.

I really liked the guys and the atmosphere and I decided to get more involved so I will be assuming duties as the membership chair for JSR starting in 2011.

Yep.... small price to pay for all the info available and not to mention the get togethers and drives.
Plus, I got $200 off of my clutch job :-)

The missing option is: yes, but planning to quit.

I may drop my membership as I don't really get much out of the deal other than a stack of recycling paper in 2 different forms on top of the Porsche glossy adverts.

Sorry to hear that. I bet yours would be the lonely entry.

Are you saying you do not appreciate:

Panorama articles with unique PAG/PCNA insight?
Participation in Porsche Corrals at major racing venues?
Interaction with other members?
PCA-only dealer discounts?

... to name a few.

Member for 16 years and very active in the local region with 1200 members. Enjoyed it all. DE, Rally, Concours (not!) Autocross (not, I get conefused), monthly club dinners, coffee runs etc. Great gang up here and those I've met from NER, CVR, JR, Metro New York, Acadia etc. are the same.

PCA provides valuation for classic Porsches for insurance puposes, access to "limited use" insurance for high value cars that aren't driven much, and DE insurance packages for driving events. AFAIK, there are no conventional insurance discounts.

I'm not.
With other activities that take up a lot of time and a young family, I've never gotten around to joining.
I spent many years in the auto racing industry and in other clubs and i've just moved on from that stage of my life. I am interested in the discounts though. I may join simply for that at some point.

PCA is great. I joined for the driving events, social events, the wife likes them too, so that never hurts, and the discounts I get with our local dealer, a big PCA sponsor. Nice people, well coordinated events and other like minded nuts like me that love Porsches.

I have never heard of PCA member discounts at dealers. Is this common place? I am in NH, I will have to ask the dealership. Never thought to ask about discounts.
Thanks for the tip.
The info on this forum never ceases to amaze me.

You only get out of it what you put in. I've been a member for 20 years. Mostly for the Track and AX programs. Not so much the social parts. Then again, my parents have been members since about 1970. I've been drinking alot of PCA "kool-aid"

As for the "young family" points, I am one now too. In fact, my kids love the Porsche and want to go to events with me. As a track rat kid, I much prefrered to go to a PCA parade, or a DE weekend, then go to "summer camp" or wake at 5am to go fishing.

Worst case is its $42 you didn't fully enjoy. However, the 10% or more dealer discounts and a great magazine to learn more about the marque more than pay for themselves.

In a world before the internet, being a PCA member was vital to learning and appreciating the engineering of your Porsche. For good or bad, the internet has removed that link.

I've been a member 5 years.

As mentioned above you get what you put in and I get a lot more out of it than I put in.

I've met some very good people I would not have met otherwise.
