Safe at all with this build date?
I've considered dozens of cars in the past month or so. I keep coming back to this one. But with some of the talk of the IMS and RMS issues with the early engines and the remedy that was done with the 06 cars, is it possible to know if this might have the improved engine just from the build date?
I can purchase this car for 48K not cpo'd, they originally had it at 52900. Its a local car sold at the dealership.
thanks

It's a late 06. It should have the reinforced IMS.

Two months ago I paid that car's current retail price for a one that's almost identical but without nav and the m/f steering wheel but with 10k less miles and CPO in silver/black.

Ask the dealer to bring up the build sheet on the car. This will list everything that went into building that particular car. It will show all options, the color, born on date, and also engine info including which model series it is, M96 or M97.
I just got one for my car last month. Very interesting.
Good Luck!

If the sticker says 09/06 it would have been a MY07 car with a VIN number of 7 instead of a 6 in the 10th place.
Thus, it has to be a 09/05 manufacture date, with the corresponding VIN of a MY06 car, which it is.
The serial number or sequence number of 5825 tells me that it is a fairly early MY06 car (which, of course, it would be if assembled in September 05). (My late May 06 build carries a sequence number of 9373.
The bottom line is that it is an early 06 build.

So the very early build 06 cars (like this one) are the gray area, not so sure about engine, right?
Ask the dealer for that build sheet.
And buy it if, and only if it comes up M97? Is that how you're feelin' on this one? I'd probably go with the Grand Finale Edition of the IMS design in all it's glory!

The dealer won't CPO it or you don't want to pay for it? If the dealer won't do it there's probably a reason for it which most likely won't work in your favor. On the other hand, if they're offering CPO and you won't spend $2K for the peace of mind you seem to be grasping for, why not?

Is that car at Aristocrat Motors? I purchased my car C2S from them and had a good experience. See my Avatar to the left and tell me if that scenery looks familiar

My car was originally an 11/04 build and the PPI before I purchased it earlier this year disclosed a RMS leak, which the seller, Nort Northam in Winter Park, FL, agreed to have repaired. Not to overlook the obvious, but are there any service records available? If so, they may reveal that the RMS has previously been replaced.

Yes Aristocrat Motors. I've had good experience with them, but as of lately I have completely frustrated my salesman by not being able to decide which car to go for. The new C2 for 77K, or this one for 48K or cpo'd for 50k...or the 09 S 6k mile for 76k...(I've brought up depreciation on all cars to him)
And on top of ALL this, I've worked at a Ford dealership for 13yrs and brought home a 11 Mustang GT California Special last night and drove it around. Buying thet would please my bosses, but the car strikes me as a younger persons car...I'm 44.
I Need this 911 to be a daily driver, and use it in any weather other than snow to make this worthwhile to have. One of my cars needs to have a warranty !
