The serial number or sequence number of 5825 tells me that it is a fairly early MY06 car (which, of course, it would be if assembled in September 05). (My late May 06 build carries a sequence number of 9373.

The bottom line is that it is an early 06 build.
Not intending to hijack this thread, however, I am just trying to shed
some light on the build date and engine.
My '06 has a build date of 7/05. Does this mean it has the M97 engine?

And by the way, Aristocrat Motors is an excellent dealer. I highly
recommend them.

I purchased my '08 Range Rover Sport there early last year and
was very happy with this sales department.

And on top of ALL this, I've worked at a Ford dealership for 13yrs and brought home a 11 Mustang GT California Special last night and drove it around. Buying thet would please my bosses, but the car strikes me as a younger persons car...I'm 44.
I Need this 911 to be a daily driver, and use it in any weather other than snow to make this worthwhile to have. One of my cars needs to have a warranty !
seems you're in a spot that a few of us wouldn't mind being in...which "new" car to get into...
it's been stated on RL quite a bit, buy the newest car you can afford...I'd go the 09 route; the S for 76K or have you considered Riley W's 09 C2? in stock trim.65K with the killer wheels, exhaust, GT3 bits, IIRc 73K.

I think the build date is really more of a concern if you have a late model '05. All MY06 cars are suppose to have the improved IMS bearing. Some of the late '05s got them too, but I've never seen an exact build date for this documented.

Also, there seems to be some confusion on what is an M97 engine. I believe all Carrera S 3.8L models start with the designation M97 and the non-S 3.6L, even cars after 06, might have an engine id starting with M96.

The only thing I've read for certain is that MY06-08 cars, regardless of build date, are suppose to have the stronger IMS bearing.

So for the OP, whether it's 09/05 or 09/06, it should have the newer IMS bearing. If it's a 09/06 build, I believe the car would be a MY07, not MY06.

I asked for the CPO at 50K on the 06, and didn't get a good response via email...more like "are you ready to give the deposit ?"

The 06 S I can buy for 75700, 2 yrs warranty cannot be CPO's (Mercedes dealer ) and will not run the sale through the Porsche side...competition issue. Sounded like a fair price , and close by logistically.

Then I get a call from my buddy on this..

I can get that one CPO's for the listed price or 2000 cheaper with out CPO.
I really like the color combo.

Your 06 may be a 3.6 liter Carrera (non-S). It is known as an M96. The M97 is the 3.8 liter engine.

Has your salesman told you to take a hike yet?

Pretty hard selling a car to someone that has little idea what they're after.

Yeah, I've been selling cars for 13yrs, so I can understand the situation from both sides.
This is a big purchase and considering the last purchase of the Turbo that didn't fit my driving style, I'm more slow to pull the trigger. Most of my consideration has NOT involved speaking to the salesman, so its not like I'm burning up the phone asking questions.
Phil, I do know what I want, but finding the right car, price, warranty slows it down a bit. The closest dealer is over 2 hrs away and has just a few cars. So 99% of my search is based off of research online.
Otherwise, If I lived on the coasts or major metro area's I could visit and test drive.
BTW nice color on your car ! I imagine you get lots of compliments on it .

It sound like you are on the fence about what you want. Take your time until you find the car you want at the price that works best for you. However, in my opinion the 09 seems to be the better option since you desire the warranty.

Yes, it's a big decision narrowing it down to one model. When I started shopping last time around, that ended in buying the Rivi blue coupe, I actually started off looking at 930's. The 930 shopping turned to 993 shopping, and that eventually turned to 997 buying, so I know what you're going through.

Sounds like there's a fairly large price jump to the 997.2 cars. Is that in the budget?

Or like someone already mentioned, how about Riley's 997.2 with PDK? Sounds like a fair asking price. Is it just the wrong color for you? To far from home?

Thanks for the kind words about my Riviera 997. Yeah, car guys stop dead in their tracks and just stare into the paint! "Wow" is what usually comes out first. When I first saw it I knew this was the car for me. I've been a Mexico Blue fan for years, and Riviera is almost identical. For me, the color is a huge factor for the purchase of a Porsche.

Good luck!
