If something is wrong, you'll figure it out eventually. Going to see someone who is going to tell you that you overreved the engine (which you already know) and then charge you for it is kinda silly.

If you really want to know they'll need to either examine the valve train or check compression. This is gonna get into the thousands of dollars potentially and all it might tell you is that you need a new engine.

Drive it and pay more fricking attention to your gear changes. Everybody makes mistake but yours almost cost you $15,000.

Can't cry over spilt milk right?

How about a change of technique I learned at Drivers Ed. Use the "claw" method of gripping the shifter. When shifting from 1-2 use your palm facing you (normal). For 2-3 turn your palm away from your body (the claw), so you can see the back of your hand. Use the same hand position for the 3-4 shift.

If you try this is is nearly impossible to shift from 3-2. Try it. it works. You may accidentally shift higher (no cost), but not lower (high cost)).

Really? Without leaving any evidence. First I've ever heard of this claim. You'd think if someone was smart enough to pull this off, someone even smarter could see that it's been tampered with.

If seventeen year old kids motivated only by boredom and armed only with a laptop and from the safety of their house, can hack Apple & Microsoft’s well advertized unbreakable software and remain free and if university students / hackers from China, can hack the White House network and super computers in a matter of hours and remain anonymous, imagine then what a professional programmer can do given the right tools and reward with one small EPROM of the car's Bosch ECU DME unit.

Food for thought.

I'm sure someone smart could do this...let us know when it happens...so far there's been no motivation for a hacker to do this.

I agree. This is the first time I have ever heard that this is possible.
Sounds fishy.

There are overlays that you can install in the DME. The only problem is that every time it is hooked up to a PIWS scanner, the DME details are stored. If the replaced details are less then the last saved file then "you got some 'splainin to do".

There is nothing fishy, you can't know everything and (I don't want to shock you with this) but what you don't know might exist in the world you know..

atr don't think that PIWIS stores kb size of EPROMs . And even if they did Porsche centers surely don’t exchange this information between them.

And to close this matter. I have seen it with my own eyes ok? And I am not known for my inaccurate posts here.
My mistake to mention it here in the first place, lesson learned.

Cheers

Hey John, I admit I have no idea at all but I thought one of the differences between the piws and the old system was that it had a link up to Porsche and transferred information about cars when it was hooked up. Again, I stress, only what I've heard. I suppose it would explain the abnormally expensive cost of leasing the diagnostic equipment.

Update: I started the car with the door open and heard a ticking noise. It's coming from the right rear so I went straight to Porsche. They are going to look into it but suspect it's a "valve lifter".

I'm dreading the call telling me that warranty is not going to cover it and how much the bill will be.

I better start saving...
