Default can you still order new 2011 911's?

Hi,

Can you still order a new 2011 911 S cab? When will they stop taking orders for new 911's given that they are coming out with the 998 next year?

The next model is internally the 991, not 998.

You can still order a 997.

2011 997's are only just rolling into dealer lots....they will be available for some time before the order book for the 991 is opened.

Thx Edgy01 and spiderv6.

Realistically, when will the 991 Convertible S be widely available in the US? Dec 2011?

I had the luxury of waiting till early 2012 to buy my Pcar, but things have changed. My M3 was invovled in an accident (read ended at a traffic light) and now I want to get rid of it.

I hear that the 991 will be introduced in Frankfurt in Sep 2011. Cars should ship in 2012. Chance are there will not be 991s in the US before mod-year 2012.

The 991 will also be a very different car from a driving dynamics perspective. Its wheelbase will be 4"longer than the current model. If you are not a 911 fan at its core it may not matter, but if you understand and care for the difference it does matter.

It's interesting that we are so close to the introduction of the 991 yet no ordering information is available yet.

Dan: I think it is too early for that. Assuming the calendar I heard we should not expect to see order guides before the end of next year.

More Porsches are leased by individuals than you may imagine...

ADias, I appreciate your comments, as always, but how are you so sure the driving dynamics will be much different on an upcoming car about which we have no facts?

If the wheelbase is 4" longer, wouldn't Porsche want preserve the unique 911 driving characteristics as they now have every other sports car type covered with their other models?

You may well be right, but if I have a guess--and it's only a guess, I think the new 911 will be not only an improved, modern car, but a better 911.

I'd be curious about the consequences of the additional 4 inches of wheel base. Just a total guess, and probably obvious, but I'd think that the impact is that the center of gravity would move forward to compensate for the rear weight (engine). A tech told me the 997.2 had it's engine further forward than the 997.1 so it seem possible that this trend is continuing (the whole evolution concept in moving away from the traditional rear engine design). Still, the 991 remains a rear-engine car but if the engine is significantly (and what defines significant I have no idea) forward it will change driving dynamics. Is this good or bad? Beats me!
