Default Rear Wing addition to 997.2S?

Am thinking about adding a rear wing to my vehicle but don't know much about the different vendors out there. Anybody with any info and or experience with any of these?

Think the GT2 design looks best or will look better on my car but have seen alot of folks impressed with Porsche's revision of the ducktail in the 911 Sport Classic which isn't going to come our way it seems. Anyway any thoughts, or pitfalls or things I should know that I haven't thought about? Diminished response/handling? Decreased value? Increased damage potential? Vandalism? Speeding tickets? etc?

Here's my car..

Thanks Rob

The only piece of advice that I can offer is that anytime you alter a car from OEM (including options) you wind up driving down the value of the car to subsequent buyers.

You have a rear wing already--it just isn't big enough apparently for you. Porsche got away from the standard 'boy racer' look over time when the majority of their buyers were more middle class, middle aged, gents who just didn't want to look silly with a big honking tail on the back of their cars. The present articulated tail does what it needs to do--keep the back end pressed down at higher speeds.

This image comes to mind...

(And no, those are not Maryland plates on that sample--they're Oklahoma)

Ahh..no that's not what I had in mind. Just have always admired the GT3 and GT2 look but not the cost as I'd never ever likely use that much performance anywhere in the near future.

Good points though and thanks for the advice.

The 911 was always a car I knew I would own some day. In fact I could have owned one sooner were it not for that rear wing on the earlier cars which I hated. Spoilers suit certain cars but not low slung fastbacks such as a 911.

I have a number of cars with factory fitted spoilers but all are discreet and suit the cars even if they are primarily only styling effect additions. The Porsche 911 wing suits the GT3 & GT2 etc so if you were getting one fitted I think you would need the whole GT2/3 body kit to go with it.

I don't really like to admit this: I wish my TT was wingless (it looks silly to me sometimes). The normal 997 protractable spoiler is great, IMO. Winglessness keeps those classic 911 lines going.

I think these cars look better without a wing.

Be aware that the wing might block some of view from the center rear mirror, especially at night driving the wing might also block the headlights of the cars behind us.

It might not bother us in the honeymoon period, yet for long term we might get tired of turning our heads often to checking both side mirrors while driving.

Unless there is a concrete performance reason that needs the rear wing, otherwise it might be better off without it.

With best regards,

+2. I love the P car boy racer look of GT3 GT2.

I am learning to love my mobile wing on my 09 Carerra S.

No idea on the downforce of the GT3 wing vs a retractable wing. Anyone?

If its off I'd say youd have to do the whole kit -f/r.

I liked the rear wing that I had on my 1981 911SC-Turbo which truly NEEDED that tail to keep the rear end on the ground. It was the early turbo tail. Nicely designed, and not too in your face.

Rob,

Here's a recent thread you might want to read.

http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/9...at-emptor.html

Concerning the other companies, I don't understand why some, Like Misha, don't advertise prices on their website. The comments on their quality on this and other forums are generally positive, but I personally don't like having to call or e-mail to find out what something costs. JM2C

I agree 100% with your comment about pricing. If a web site doesn't have the prices listed, I will not contact them. I always assume, be it right or wrong, that they are overpriced and know it, which is why they don't list the prices.

I generally don't like the larger wings and find some downright ugly. I do like my TT wing. At one time I considered adding a low key wing to my 997S and Techart had one or two lower key wings I had in mind. Here's Techart's page for 997.2: http://www.techart.de/en/techart-sho.../exterior.html
