Default advice from 911 owners who also have boxster S

Have a chance to pickup a boxster S rs60 over a 06 911 base cab

any thoughts from owners who have both, which one is more satisfying, do not need the backseats

Thanks

I owned two Boxsters and now have an '06 C2S cab. Unfortunately, I can not give you a direct answer. Both models are very satisfying, but in different ways. The Boxsters have a lighter feeling, the 911 seems more "grown up". The best thing you can do is drive both cars, and just take the one that feels more "right" for you. You can not go wrong with either one.

I currently own an 09 C2S and an 05 Boxster S. I've driven and considered a 911 convertible, but the Boxster is the better choice. It's designed as a rag-top from the ground up, handles like a dream, sounds great, is built like a tank, etc. There are reasons why I ended up with a C2S Coupe and a Boxster S.

If sticking with "founder's intent" then you must buy the Boxster S, which is based on the original Spyder 550. The current 911 cab basically looks and feels to me like a 911 with the top cut off...

Bottom line is there are those that love the 911 cab and those that love the coupe, and those that love the Boxster. I've always felt the Boxster has not received it's due because it's the "least expensive Porsche". But it's every bit as much a true Porsche as the current 911 models if not more so. You just have to get past the notion that it's a lesser car.

Not sure I'd go with an RS60 though unless it's priced the same as a "regular" Boxster S. Sort of felt the "special" models like the RS60 and new Spyder didn't offer real benefits worth a premium.

I'm fortunate to have both a 911 and a Boxster. I love my 911, but the Boxster's handling is sublime - it dances around corners like a ballerina. The 911 (in the hands of THIS amateur) feels heavier and I have to work harder to get it close to its handling potential.

All in all, they're both great cars. But if I could only have one, it would be the 911.

I currently own a 997S but I miss the hell out of my 987S.
The Boxster is more fun to drive in my opinion.

The only people that ever diss a Boxster are those that have never driven one.

Not enough HP and Torque.

AFAIK, it would kill the 911 if it had equal or more power.

We have an '06 C2S and an '05 Boxster S.
If you're fortunate enough to own two modern Porsches, I think those two cars are a potent one-two-punch.
I love 'em both.

The Boxster S is like driving a scalpel; the Carrera S is like driving a cruise missile.

Totally different handling and spirit. The howl when you get the Carrera up to 5K RPM is a blast; but so is the Boxster engine.

The Boxster never, ever feels "close to the edge" in handling - is is the most supreme-handling car I've ever driven. The Carrera has that interesting / challenging "edge" sometimes - where the back just begins to swing - that is totally fun in a very different way.

Take some long test drives - get on and off a freeway / highway - get both engines up to a few thousand RPM - and follow your heart. I love my Cab S; but man, I miss my Boxster S plenty.

Have both...love both.

Always tell the wife every winter I'm going to sell boxster and go with one car. Maybe sell both and upgrade to S or turbo or even gt3.

Then spring comes and I start driving the boxster and I say to myself....."ur f'en crazy!" What a car to drive everyday.

Of those two your thinking about go for the boxster.

I have a 2007 C2S and a 2008 Boxster S, I love both cars. the Boxster handles and steers great and I never get it out unless the top is down. The C2S is more of a GT car and I drive it more on weekend getaways, out to dinner and when there is a chance of rain. The 911 is faster but the Boxster is fast and has a different feel although the interiors and steering wheels are almost the same. If you can have both I recommend having both.

I replaced a 2007 Boxster S (295hp version) with my current 2009 Carrera S. The Boxster was a terrific car; one of the best balanced, nicest handling vehicles I've ever owned. It was also the first roadster I'd ever owned and while I enjoyed the top down experience, I missed the look and feel of my previous coupes. The Boxster looks great from certain angles, a little less so from others, while the 911 coupe is just classic from every perspective. There is an intrinsic "Porscheness" to the 911, and the improvements in the 997.2 and additional 90 HP over the Boxster didn't hurt.

All that said, and assuming the pricing is fair and both cars are colors you can live with, I'd probably choose the RS60 over the base '06 Cab. It's newer, has only a 22hp disadvantage and lighter weight compared to the Cab so is at least a match in straight line performance, will handle better, and IMO is more unique. Good luck with your choice!

I have a 997 but I must say that the Boxster gives you a LOT of Porsche for the buck!

I have owned 2 Boxsters. Great cars, a blast to drive. Helluva a lot of porsche for the money. I do prefer the Carreara S Cab for extended road trips. The cockpit space is a big reason. Tough to recline those roadster seats.
