That's where I buy it and they carry VR1 for the antique

Welcome to the world of oil consumption. Some of the Porsche engines use a lot of oil. Most do not. Porsche claims that it is within their tolerance range. Just plan on having a lot of oil on hand. My oil mileage has not improved at all since brand new.

My experience is the same as Dan's: Oil consumption has not improved since new, and I am now at about 14k miles. Still burning one quart every 1,300 or so miles. Yes, Porsche has its loose spec (1.6 liter every 662 miles, or one quart every 414 miles), but it's hard to swallow. Does anyone know the justification for the spec? Why is it necessary in an expensive, high performance engine? We are not talking Chevy Vega here.

I spoke to Mobil today. They told me that several manufacturers are becoming known for oil usage issues, like the Porsche. Cadillacs apparently have the problem with their Northstar engines. This is the first Porsche I have owned with such poor oil use. (All others were air-cooled!)

Thanks for the Amazon link. I once wasted hours driving around Chicago looking for the proper oil. Couldn't find it anywhere.

Good to know my oil usage isn't considered "abnormal" by these engines...my '08 M3 used about 1 qt every 6K miles and my '07 Shelby GT500 didn't use any...and that 5.4l SC engine was a monster that I couldn't keep my foot out of Still this C2S is simply AMAZING

You can get 0W-40 from Amazon.com - it's $47 for 6 quart bottles. Is this reasonable?

Not sure $8 is reasonable for a quart of oil but it's the going rate, reasonable or not . I get mine from Suncoast at $8 bottle. Only place in town that carries it (that I know of). Mobil gas stations don't even bother stocking it. Either way, a quart of oil every now and then at $8 is a microscopic amount of money in the overall expense picture of driving these cars. At least that's the way I see it having spent on average $1500 every 8,000 miles just on tires

I am in California. Last month, I just had an oil change on my 2010 GT3 at my local Porsche dealer. My dealer told me that now they use the new Mobile 1 5W-40 (ESP Formula M) oil, and they also gave me an extra quart for spare.

Regards,

Autozone and Pep Boys stock it...$7 and change per quart.

the Walmart in Dallas has it for $6.79. so 6 * 6.79 * 1.0825 = $44.10.
so if Amzn is offering at $47 shipped to your door, yeah, I'd say thats resonable.
Walmart offers 5quart bottles for $24 but only in 0w-30, 0-20, and a few other weights, but NOT in 0-40. Darn, now that would be a deal.

Take what you want from it. Personally to expensive for me. From what I took from it, is that the for a full synthetic non blend it seems Mobil S 10w-40 did well for the mid range priced oil.
