Oil ??
I recently got the low oil warning after 6,000 miles. I have chosen to go with the 5W40 Mobil 1 synthetic. The stuff is harder to find than I thought. I finally found this weight but the Mobil 1 bottle indicates it is for turbo truck diesel applications. The parts store manager assures me that this is the same oil for passenger vehicles. Can anyone here confirm that this turbo truck diesel oil is ok for my 2009 C2S?

Porsche recommends the 0-40W Mobil 1 (European car formulation). Lucky you that your oil consumption appears fairly low--perhaps a quart every 6000 miles. (I use it at the rate of a quart every 1000).
Many of these oils are somewhat difficult to find at times when you need it. Where are you located? Sometimes it can be found as easily as at Walmart or Target.
I keep several cases on hand because I just never know when my sources can dry up.
The product that you describe, with a turbo diesel truck application, also meets API SM specifications for gasoline powered vehicles, however, it is not on the approved list for Porsche. (That would be the 0W40 blend for European Cars.) The 5W40 appears to be known as the 5W40 Delvac oil.
On the Rennlist forums are several different opinions on the various oil offerings for the 997. Also heavily debated is the viscosity issue of 0-40 vice 5-40. Type in either term in the search engine here and you will get more than you may want to know!

Make him realize he screwed up so he shuts his mouth next time he has the urge to express 100% assurance that he knows what he's talking about!
Anyway, he did give me an excuse to enjoy reposting this:

I bought a quart of oil from my dealer along with a zip pouch to store it in the front luggage compartment. They also told me that in a pinch, you can top up the oil with whatever you can find, as long as it's a synthetic.
The recommended oil is virtually impossible to find. I've tried Jag and Lexus dealers before, but no luck.

There is the Euro Formula 0-40w and now also the ESP 5-40w.
And yes, the ESP says for diesel automobiles (but not specifically for 'turbo trucks') because of the oil's lower ash content (important for diesel motors.)
But the ESP 5-40w has a bit less phosphorus content than the Euro 0-40w. The reason is because manufacturers got worried about phosphorus and emission systems (ie, the cats.)
Apparently phosphorus is M1's "zinc" equivalent (ZDDP) and is important for performance motors as it's the primary protective ingredient.
Here's Mobil's take on it: "The ILSAC level for phosphorus has been reduced to protect the catalytic converter and other emission protection equipment. The engine manufacturers are confident that this level of phosphorus will protect both new and older engines. However, there are Mobil 1 products which have a higher level of phosphorus and can be used in engines in racing or high performance applications."
I have an E63 AMG and Daimler has now said that the ESP 5-40w is their approved oil (although the Euro 0-40w is still on the list.)
It sounds like either too much phosphorus and perhaps ruin the cats or not enough phosphorus and perhaps have less protection.
But I think unless one is doing very long OCIs, then it doesn't really matter. I'm assuming most everybody changes their oil a bit sooner than 10-15k(?) fwiw, the last analysis I did (after a 6k OCI) showed the oil to be basically still brand new.
If the oil the OP found was ESP 5-40w, then it's fine, imho. But I've found it's harder to find than the Euro 0-40w.

5w-40 and 0w-40 have the same hot temp range....40w. Just get the 0w-40 or go with Castrol Syntec 5w-50.

0-40 and 5-50 are recommended for my 09 Carerra S. The 5-50 has to be ordered thru local wholesale distributer but costs same as 0-40. I use the 5-50 for summer months especially DE's.

AutoZone has the Mobil 1, 0-40W Euro Spec - just bought 6 qts. last weekend....have added a full qt. now with only 1200 miles on the engine. Hope consumption decreases one the engine gets more miles on it.
