Looks good to me and I would grab it if it passes the PPI. Like others said here, it's like getting a new car for half off! Just get rid of those "lobster fork" wheels.

My experience FWIW.

I purchased an 03 with 17K miles two years ago - not quite the same as you, but it was barely driven. My car is CPO. It will be two years in November and it has 40K now.

It consumed a lot of oil for the first couple of months - but now it's well within limits. Had to replace the clutch (it felt worn to me when I bought it and it started slipping soon after). Oddly enough, it's gone through two AC compressors.

My hunch is the car was owned by someone who really didn't know how to drive a stick and never learned.

Get a good PPI.

I'll be looking for a used/CPO 997 this fall. Turbo or S cab.

I like the low miles idea because the condition is likely to like new. I bought a 2002 last November with 13k on it, so it was driven less than 2,000 miles per year. But exterior and interior were in superb condition, which was important to me. If that's important to you, then do it if it's the car you have been looking for.

Consider that '06 C2 cars had a base model price of $71k so I'm guessing the C2S is about $5k more? That means there are $25k-$30k of options in this car? Aside form the usual (bose, xenon) you should not be paying that much extra for options unless you really want them and resale is not a consideration.

Looking at not so well optioned cars, I would say a ~20k mile '06 C2S should be around $55k. If you can spend $65k then that will get you into a ~10k mile '07 C2S. The '07 may have more than a year warranty remaining and with CPO that gives you 3 years/100k miles peace of mind.

The extra you are paying for options and limited miles is not what I'd do if buying a manual. I'd pay $55k for a more usual spec C2S car with 10-20k miles. I drove a 22k mile C2 yesterday silver over black with the usual Bose/Xenon/power seats and the warranty date was 10/06 so there are actually a few more months left on the factory warranty plus 2 years CPO and the guy started at $52k (I didn't purse any further as I want a tip).

Or I'd pay $69k for a '09 non S car with 500 miles like this one.

Use the Porsche used car search, search the country and you'll get an idea of the prices that are out there.

I believe you are missing one HUGE part of this equation. Its a cabriolet (which adds $10,000.00 to the sticker price...

So, the price he is looking at is VERY realistic, especially considering its a brand new car (for me, 2K miles makes it a brand new car). Hell, you can buy brand new cars with the window sticker still on them off a showroom floor that have close to 2K miles....

I'd go for it. You never know...the car could have been driven 20-30 miles a month, just to warm up the oil and circulate the fluids. If that was done, the car would be in perfect condition. The seats wouldn't show the *** time, you wouldn't have rock chips, and everything else that comes with high miles. Who knows what the car has been though after 10, 20, or 30k miles. You're getting a new car on the cheap here.

So the only thing I would look for is that it's a 06 build car. I looked at two 06 cars and one was built on 8/24/2005 and the other 6/23/2006 - almost a year difference and the older one may have the IMS issue.

Thank you all for the great feedback. I'm convinced too that this is like buying a new car with a big discount.

The ONLY thing I am now wrestling with is the cabrio top color. While I can see how grey on grey looks nice, I've always envisioned seal grey with the black top. Doing some soul searching to see if I can live with the grey top . Don't want to make a 70K mistake!

FYI I saw two ~5K mile 2006 Carrera S Cabs sell for ~$55K back in January/February. Both had MSRPs of ~$100K (Sport Chrono, Bose, heated & full power seats, colored crests, Porsche emblem in headrest & a few other options that I don't recall.) Both were out of warranty and were private sales.

The 8/2005 build car should be no more suspect to an IMS failure as the 6/2006 build. From what I've read and researched, all MY06 cars have the improved IMS bearing. Even some late build MY05 cars, although I don't know when exactly the change occured on the MY05. MY06+ 997.1s seemed to be holding up very well (knock on wood.)

As for infant mortality concerns stated by some, how often have we heard about near brand new 997.1 cars with any serious issue? It's been very rare. IMHO - infant mortality is low risk concern, if a concern at all. But for those that do worry, CPO or an aftermarket extended warranty is the way to go.

When I bought my 06 C2S 8 months ago, it had 6.5K miles. We ran the transaction through the dealer which offered the CPO warranty. The car still had 10 months left of warranty but decided to take the plunge and bought the extended warranty for $2K. Low mileage was a small concern for me but I think this should not stop you from getting the car as long as the PPI checks out OK. By the way, I got the car for around $55K including CPO.
