Buying an 06 with 2K miles. Bad idea?
Hi all,
My search for the right car may have ended. I found an 06 C2S cab in seal grey with 2K miles.
Low miles are great but should I be worried about a car driven so little in 4 years? I would of course have a PPI done.
Appreciate your thoughts.

If it checks out, why not? A local Philadelphia Flyer just traded in his 2006 Gallardo with only 2000 miles on it for a new 911 TT. It was sold within a few weeks. Someone is getting a sweet car, and so will you. Just post pics if you get it.

There are some on this forum that will view such a car a less desirable, as it wasn't driven enough. So the bugs weren't shaked out, not broken in enough, not enough lubrication due to lack of use etc. etc...
I'm not in that camp. If the car was 10 years old with 2K, I might be a bit more worried, but 3-4 years old with 2K is nothing I'd lose sleep over. All other things being equal, I'd take a low miles car over an average or high miles car in heart beat.

The car could be almost 5 years old. I would be concerned if it is out of warranty/non CPO. I fall into the camp of "not enough miles to shake the bugs out". I passed on a very low mile '06 S Cab in January after I saw the service records and it had been flatbedded to the dealer 5 times for "would not start".

Has the car been certified by Porsche? If so, jump on it. Just know that some of the infant mortality issues will have to wait for you to find them now.

Hi all,
Thanks for the feedback. The car is at an independent luxury car dealership (non-CPO). The owner traded the car in for a Mclaren SLR.
The other thing I'm wrestling with is the color of the cloth top. The car is seal grey with a grey top. How do you guys think that looks? I prefer a black top but I guess it doesnt look that bad with a grey top (actually kind of blends in). I know it's MY choice but I value your thoughts.

Normally I would say no to the grey top but with a grey car it will blend perfectly. Same reason I went all black - it blends so well it almost looks like a coupe.
I say if this car has the options you want and price is close you should get it done quickly. My car is 2 months old and I have put over 3k miles on and everything looks and smells as the day I picked it up. Yours will be the same. I bet the seats are pristine! Grab it

I agree with Robbonds. I have an 06 Cab with only 15k miles and it runs wonderfully. I would doubt that any infant mortality issues would be any more likely than other issues that might crop up with a higher mileage car. It sounds like someone with money (buying an SLS) had the car and didn't drive it that much. No big deal. I personally would like the gray top with a gray car. I have a blue top on my blue car and like it a lot. I like a top close to the same color as the body.
If concerned about warranty, buy a 3rd party warranty.
Good luck.

If we were talking about a 20-year-old car, things would be a lot different, but you've got nothing to worry about--I'd jump on it if it's everything you want otherwise.

I wouldn't worry about issues as you have aftermarket warranty options.
However I don't know if you're planning to pay a premium for the low miles - I wouldn't on this car.

Thanks for all the feedback guys.
As far as pricing, the car had a sticker of $108.5K new and the dealer is asking for $66K. He has come down to $65K verbally and I'm trying to get him closer to $63K.
Does their asking price sound reasonable?

65k sounds a bit too high. I was looking for either 06/07 C2S coupe and for the 06's depending on the options, a fairly well optioned one should be priced in the mid 50s. Just this March, I talked to a private seller whose husband had passed away - 06 C2S cab, 6k miles - she didn't know what to price the car at, and wanted $60. Sticker at $95. I thought 53.7 was fair for the options (very basic options), but she wasn't sure. So I walked. Heard the car sold not too long after, but don't know how close to her asking price. Also another comparison point was an 07 C2S coupe with 12k miles sold at auction for $59k.
Hope all that random data helped.
Without seeing the options on the car, I would probably say 60-63 would be fair (especially with the superlow miles). Make sure you get the PPI / DME readout. But with only 2k miles, I doubt the prior owner had too much time to drive it in a fashion you'd be worried about. Make sure you consider the state of the tires, too, especially if you are planning on driving it around corners with some gusto... the car's obviously had some lengthy garage time.
