Cool THIRD/CENTER RADIATOR INSTALL DIY 06 Carrera S

***DISCLAIMER*** This DIY is written with the sole intention of sharing my own exprience in installation of OEM Third or Center Radiator. This is not the official factory procedure. Just my personal DIY. I am not liable for any damage this might cause. Just sharing these steps enthusiastically hoping to help do-it-yourselfers.

***The 3rd radiator for Carrera Type 997 is different from the GT3/Turbo's.

The GT3/Turbo 3rd radiators are bigger and three times more expensive. ALSO the GT3/Turbo 3rd(or center) Radiator exists hot air through the top of the bumper WHILE this one for the Carrera/s, C4S or X51 kit exists hot air to the bottom of the bumper.

Parts/OEM Porsche. The Kit has the following parts.
- Radiator, 997.106.037.02
- Bottom Clamp/Carrier
- Rear Air Ducting 997.504.487.00
- Front Air Ducting 997575.141.02
- Bumper Air Inlet
- Hose, Left Hand 997.106.639.04
- Hose, Right Hand 997.106.638.04
- Bolts, Nuts, Anchor Nuts
*There were also 4 bolts and 6 anchor nuts which I didnt use, they might be for C4S use.*

Cool

Remove Bumper. See my DIY on bumper removal here http://gallery.rennlist.com/gallery/album430

Cover the radiator hose inlets to prevent foreign object from getting in.

-I highly recommend that the following items be removed to give you more room to work:
--main aluminum bumper(held just by 2 16mm bolts)
--Horn (held just by one nut)
--existing side(left and right) radiator air ductings( only held by 3 torx screws each)

-I positioned the Rear Air Ducting to the front to give me a better picture how everything will be oriented/positioned.

-Position with the Radiator with its hoses facing rear and through the holes of the ducting. Then install the

Front air ducting on the front of the radiator. Lock this ducting onto the radiator with its plastic tabs on top and its bottom will be held by the Bottom Clamp/Carrier(big long aluminum piece).

-Bolt the clamp on the bottom of the radiator and front and aft ducting with two small bolts. This will hold the FOUR pieces together.

-Set the assembly aside.

Cool

-Have a bucket to catch coolant. Pull the locking ring from the left hand plugged hose/radiator. Pull the plug straight out while jiggling a little (*do not try to twist the plugs since they have keys/spline on side*).

I have the front of the car tilted up with jack stands so only about a gallon came out. If you have your car level, expect at least 2 to 3 gallons.

-For the right side, it is better to remove the horn to have more room to work. Remove the plug from the right radiator. Less collant will come out from here since this is coming off the top of the right hand radiator.

-Install the left hand hose into the left side radiator where you just removed the plug. ***The hoses have dots which indicates the end to goes into the radiator side.

-Install the right hand hose into the right hand radiator where you just removed the plug. **again, Dot on the hose indicates end that goes into the new(3rd) radiator.

Why did you install the center radiator? Was your car overheating?

How much weight does the center radiator add?

*at this point, I pre fill the new radiator with DE-IONIZED water. It will only take less than half a gallon.

This will lessen the air pockets and will make the burping of the system later on easier.

-Loosely hang the new radiator assembly(with ducting and clamp) that put together onto the two welded studs. I put a nut very loosely on the left hand side and a bolt in the bottom of the assembly to hold it in position to do the next step.

-Install the left and right hoses onto the third radiator with provided clips. **Take note of the proper orientation/positioning of these clips or you will have leaks.

-Once you are sure you installed the hoses SECURELY, proceed in tightening the two bolts on top corners of the radiator assembly and the two bottom corner nuts to lock it in position.

**At this point I want to leak check all my connections, so I poured more 50/50 coolant/water into the expansion tank, secure the cap back and fired up the car to bring it to normal operating temparature. This purged a lot of

the air too that i introduced in the system in the process.

**Once I was sure that its leak free. I let it cool down and then serviced the expansion tank with some more coolant/water(De-ionized).

-Remove the blank off ducting from the bumper, and install the new one making sure that the clips catches the tabs properly.

Cool

I also installed the screen, while Im in there.

I need to mention, as the picture show below, the bottom aft part of the bumper has 4 pre-etched rectangular holes for this bottom exit cooling. I just cut them with a dremel tool.
