Default Carrera GTS

I just got this from a local dealer:

"Carrera S variant expected later this year, a Carrera GTS. There will be Coupes and Cabriolets. They’ll be rear-wheel-drive cars but with wide Turbo (Carrera 4S) bodies. The 408 horsepower X51 Powerkit* will be standard along with other special extras. We’re told to expect the base price for the Coupe to be approximately $103,000, $112,000 for the Cabriolet. And we’re told that production will be limited to 500 Coupes, 500 Cabriolets.

*X51 Carrera S Powerkit: Engine upgrade to 408 hp. Comprised of modified cylinder heads, carbon-fiber air filter casing (upper part), new variable resonance intake manifold with six tuning flaps, sports exhaust system featuring specially designed twin dual-tube tailpipes and modified engine management."

sounds interesting, i like the RWD widebody bit..

i wish they would just make all the cars widebody, (could decrease the costs to build if they were all widebody)

Sounds good, pricing is a whole lot better than the Sport Classic. This C2S variant reminds me of the 993 S 2WD wide body styling, but with power benefits.

I like the narrow body. Did none of you see "Supersize me"? Moderation can be good for you.

For the money, I'd rather buy a GT3.

Interesting....I think I'll keep my 2009 Carrera S for a while longer and hold out with hope for a GT3 with PDK.

Sounds like a good model... however, another indication 997 model is coming to an end, as they usually release limited edition models at the end of a model's life!

991 in 2011 anyone?

+1, WB 997s are a bit contrived in my opinion. I have the same width tires on my NB (wider tires were the reason there was a WB on the aircooleds in the first place), only the offset is different. It's cosmetic and a bit silly when examined as a functional part of the car, adding weight and widening the track only slightly. Not saying they don't look good, just saying my NB looks just as good or better to me.

I can see how a car like this would bridge the marginal gap between a 911S and a GT3, but why build in limited numbers? Makes me wonder if they are testing the market for such a car that could enable them to remove the GT3 from the product lineup.

Keep in mind that the new GT3RS has this same wide body rear-end. If weight were really a factor, I think the RS would have the same body of the non-RS GT3.

Honestly I don't see the difference between the 997 narrow and wide body. They both look wide but both are too high and rounded. The good thing I see is that with 408 hp, PDK and some weight reducing modifications it should blow away a 997.2 GT3 at the track.

I was considering getting a 997.2 GT3 but with the S being so close I think I may have to pass.
