To the OP: you definitely have it backwards. The Porsche is the fun weekend car, not the bimmer.

Meh. Matter of opinion. I like the OP's style. I actually just purschased a convertible bimmer yesterday for the very same reason. That said, I use both my 997 coupe and the ragtop bimmer for weekend fun. But the 997 will remain my DD.

The 997 is my weekend car. My AMG is my DD. Used to have an M3, it was my DD as well.

Nice selection. Go with the RD Sport springs and 15 MM spacers all the way around. I have this setup on my e90 M and it really transforms the look of the car. I have seen people use the H&R coupe springs on the e93 and it drops it about the same as the RD Sports BTW.

He might be on to something.
Week = 5 days
Weekend = 2 days
If I was choosing a car to drive most of the time, it would also be a P car

What I can tell you right away is that they are very different. The power in the P-car is much more linear, while the M3 feels more violent. I got the M3 as the DCT so my wife can drive it and it's nice, but it feels weird to have nothing to do to with my left foot. Being that the M3 is a convertible it is considerably heavier than the P-car and you can feel it. However, I really can't knock the M3 on anything. The handling is very neutral and predictable. The steering wheel feed back is much number than the P-car and the same goes with the suspension. Honestly though it's not bad and superior to any regular 3 series or Merc I have been in. A Porsche though has a special feeling that I have never felt in another car, I'm all excited about the M3 because it's new and it's convertible, but something is missing. If you had never driven a Porsche I doubt you would desire much more than an M3 offers though. I'm happy with the choice.

We started looking at convertibles and at first we were really leaning toward a 335, but after driving the M the choice was easy for me.

Having tracked my 997 I assume that the M3 is not as capable of a car, but it is far from incapable. A coupe is likely a great track car choice that would be easier to drive than our rear engine beasts.

I'll add more once I have had more time to really examine the two.

The M3 was a compromise car. My wife wanted a convertible and I insisted it be somewhat sporty and not too feminine for me to drive on occasion as well. For my situation, it was the best choice. I really enjoy driving my P car and I already think I would miss it too much if it sat all week.

It's in project stage right now, I keep telling myself to prioritize it more.

One of my weekend cars. I use the 997S on and off as a daily driver. This is an Autokraft MKIV. Roush aluminum 351, 5 speed.
